Founded in 1950, General Extrusions operates from a 200,000+ sq/ft facility in Youngstown, Ohio.

Role Description

The Facilities Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at our Youngstown, OH facility. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of the 200,000+ sq/ft manufacturing site, including buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment supporting aluminum extrusion and related operations. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, managing facility-related vendors and service contracts, monitoring facility budgets, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The Facilities Manager will develop and implement facility improvement plans, support lean manufacturing initiatives through optimized layouts and workflows, and collaborate with operations, engineering, and leadership to minimize downtime and support production goals. This role also involves supervising facilities and maintenance staff, setting priorities, and responding to urgent facility issues to maintain a safe, reliable working environment.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in facilities management within a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably metal or aluminum production.
  • Strong skills in maintenance planning, building systems oversight, and equipment reliability practices.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards (OSHA, EPA, and relevant local codes) and experience implementing related policies.
  • Ability to manage facility budgets, control costs, and coordinate vendor relationships and service contracts effectively.
  • Proficiency with facility management software, maintenance tracking systems, and basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office).
  • Solid organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience leading or supervising maintenance or facilities teams.
  • Experience supporting lean manufacturing initiatives, plant layout optimization, and continuous improvement projects is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant technical training or education in facilities management, engineering, industrial technology, or a related feild.

This position requires strong skills in maintenance planning, preventive and predictive maintenance, building systems oversight, and equipment reliability practices. Extensive experience supporting aluminum extrusion presses, CNC machining centers, automated saw systems, material handling equipment, and ancillary production machinery. Knowledgeable in PLC troubleshooting and programming support, industrial automation systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, motor controls, VFDs, conveyors, and process cooling systems. Proven ability to improve equipment uptime through root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), condition monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. Must be experienced in managing maintenance teams, coordinating capital projects, equipment installations, shutdown planning, spare parts inventory, and regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment.

Required Technical Expertise

Aluminum extrusion press equipment and associated support systems, CNC mills, machining centers, and fabrication equipment. Automatic and precision saw operations, PLC troubleshooting and programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)Hydraulic and pneumatic systems diagnostics and repair, Electrical systems up to industrial distribution levels, Motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and industrial automation, Preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs, Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and continuous improvement methodologies, CMMS utilization, maintenance planning, scheduling, and spare parts management, Facility and utility systems including HVAC, compressed air, and process cooling equipment.
