Job summary

Crown Point Christian School is seeking a Facilities Supervisor to ensure the maintenance, cleanliness, and readiness of the school building and grounds each morning. You will supervise the Lead Custodian, coordinate vendors, and work with the Building & Grounds Committee to address current concerns and future needs.

Open the building by 6:30 am, manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and aging infrastructure, and oversee safety inspections and inventory.

Qualifications

  • Experience and training in building maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude with HVAC knowledge.
  • Experience with basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Ability to operate snowplow and hydraulic lift.
  • Active church member aligned with CPCS faith.
  • Strong work ethic and reliable time management.
  • Able to lift and move heavy items; physically capable.

Responsibilities

  • Open the school by 6:30 am and check systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
  • Verify parking lot, sidewalks, and main entrance usability.
  • Remove snow/ice by 7:15 am for staff arrival.
  • Spread salt on sidewalks and around the playground when needed.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical systems; obtain approval before service calls.
  • Schedule and document code-required fire and stove/oven inspections.
  • Arrange furniture and setup for events; assist gym setup as needed.
  • Assist landscaping needs and manage related contracts.
  • Perform minor repairs; supervise custodial quality and safety.

Supervise Lead Custodian during the school year and coordinate other outside vendors to achieve superior cleaning & maintenance standards.

Liaison with Building & Grounds Committee to address current concerns and future maintenance needs.

Responsibilities
  • Open the school building each morning by 6:30 am and check for proper operation of all systems, including heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Verify the public usability of the parking lot, sidewalks, and main entrance.
  • Remove snow/ice from front entrances and sidewalks by 7:15 am when staff begin to arrive.
  • Spread salt on sidewalks in front entrances and around the playground when ice is present.
  • Operate and maintain the mechanical systems, including heating, air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing. Obtain approval of the Director of Operations before placing a service call.
  • Schedule and document regular fire and stove/oven inspections as required by code.
  • Assemble, tag, move, and maintain furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Set up and take down chairs, tables, and risers for internal events, including but not limited to chapels, professional development, conferences, and meetings. Volunteers will be requested to assist with gym setup/takedown for large events such as concerts.
  • Assist with landscaping needs and contracts, including but not limited to lawn mowing, fertilizing, weed spraying/pulling, grass watering, and maintaining mulch.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment, furniture, and building structure.
  • Inspect the work of custodial staff to ensure that superior standards of cleanliness are met. If standards are not met, work with the Lead Custodian to rectify the situation.
  • Monitor inventory of building supplies and order as needed.
  • Maintain records and ensure safe handling and storage of flammable and/or dangerous chemicals.
  • Maintain neat and well-stocked maintenance rooms and storage closets.
  • Organize and store construction materials for future repairs/touch-ups.
  • Assist IT staff and contractors with wiring needs and A/V projects.
  • Work with the Director of Operations to maintain a quick reference book of vendor contacts, operating manuals, and warranties.
  • Collaborate with Lead Custodian to recruit, train, assign, and supervise summer staff.
  • Request quotes and review invoices of contracted B&G projects and services.
  • Other duties as assigned by your direct report
