Position Overview
Our Internal Services Department is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Technician to participate in operating and maintaining machinery and equipment to maintain electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. We’re looking for a driven individual with a broad set of talents in maintenance and building trades to help keep our facilities running smoothly and efficiently.
Examples of Duties
- Performs journeyman electrician work; installs electrical conduits and fittings, bending conduits as necessary; routes and pulls wiring for electrical, telephone, computer, intercom, and alarm systems; repairs electrical appliances; replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators; troubleshoot power for lighting, outlets and various machinery; installs power for numerous types of electrical equipment to include lighting; outlets, motors, switches and air conditioning units; etc
- Performs general to skilled mechanical system work; Installs and maintains heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems in County buildings and facilities; checks thermostats, changes belts, bearings, motors, filters, compressors, etc.; cleans coils; monitors air humidity and ventilation
- Performs general to skilled plumbing work; maintains plumbing systems, including installing water and sanitary fixtures and equipment; changes faucet washers, stems, seals, etc.; flushes and clears clogged lines, using rotor machines or hand tools; repairs toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, guide wires, etc.; repairs water coolers
- Purchases material and supplies, as necessary, obtaining items from qualified vendors or seeking bids or price quotes, according to established policy
- Serves on call 24 hours for a period of seven days or more
- Serves on stand-by during adverse weather conditions and emergencies
- Operate and maintain genie and scissor lift
- Operates motor vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED and one and one-half (1.5) years of experience and/or training in maintenance or building trades work; or an equivalent combination of education training, and experience.
Must provide appropriate transportation and personal hand tools
Must have and maintain a telephone at all times
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment related to the plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, painting and grounds maintenance trades
- Knowledge of approved electrical methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards
- Knowledge of heat, ventilation and air conditioning system installation and maintenance
- Knowledge of County purchasing policies and procedures
- Knowledge of the principles of organization, administration and supervision
- Skill and ability to use and care for a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform plumbing, masonry, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and grounds maintenance tasks
- Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the general public
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Conditions Of Employment
Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
