Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte.Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently recruiting a FT Facilities Maintenance Technician with maintenance experience or training. TheFacilities Maintenance Technician will beresponsible for the maintenance of facilities & equipment of Roof Above Properties. Therefore, passion, respect, and an understanding that this job directly provides daily supportfor those served by our mission is a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Execute work orders in a timely fashion and report any delays immediately to supervisor
  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance tasks as assigned by Facility Manager
  • Execute electrical and plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installations
  • Perform handyman work functions to include painting, carpentry, and masonry work.
  • Communicate to facility manager site conditions and concerns
  • Communicate with staff and/or tenants on work order process
  • Be willing, on occasion, to perform humble tasks as they relate to the nature of our work
  • Be positive support of all Roof Above programs and staff

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • At least 2-3 years of experience performing maintenance on commercial and residential buildings
  • Good understanding and ability to repair, install, and maintain HVAC, plumbing fundamentals and electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to work with power tools, and perform carpentry, paint, and plastering work
  • High school education (or equivalent) required; must have basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Substantial relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Must be flexible in addressing tenant concerns
  • Task oriented - Proven experience inworking autonomouslyin the absence of othersor withoutSupervisor’s direction.
  • Team oriented - Experience working in groups and can treat others in a positive manner; must be able to communicate effectively with agency staff, facility staff and facility manager
  • Customer oriented - good customer service skills
  • Basic computerdata entry, and mobile phone skills requiredfor time & attendancerelatedfunctions.
  • Demonstrated ability to managetime and schedule requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skillsto interact with staffs & clients.
  • ValidNorth Carolina driver’s license.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires working nontraditional hourswithminimal direct supervision. Requires much physical movement, lifting, carrying, and reading instructions.Additionally, this role requires:
  • Ability tolift upto 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move, walk, lift, bend, stand, grasp, climb steps/ladders and able to work in an elevated environment.
  • Ability to tolerate physical contact with, use of, andin close proximity toapproved cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Daily schedule of first shift, Monday- Fridaywith breaks and meal periods.
  • Ability to be on call for emergency repairs
