Job summary

The Orange County Asset Management Services Department in North Carolina is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I to perform basic maintenance, address simple plumbing issues, water remediation, and light installations, repairs, and replacements.

This safety-sensitive position requires on-call availability for weather impacts, emergency response support, and adherence to background checks, fitness-for-duty assessments, and pre-employment drug testing. Employment contingent on clearance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of building maintenance experience preferred.
• Must be able to respond to on-call emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic maintenance including simple plumbing, water remediation, and installations or replacements.
• On-call availability for inclement weather and emergency response support.
• Work under supervision with growing independence in planning and carrying out tasks.

Job description

The Orange County Asset Management Services Department has an opening for a Facilities Maintenance Technician I. An employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing basic maintenance such as correcting simple plumbing issues, water remediation and basic installations, repairs and replacements. An employee of this class is required to be available for on-call response to inclement weather conditions that may affect County facilities and operations as well as community emergency response, Red Cross assistance and Emergency Services support during declared state of emergency operations. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.

This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required.

Background Check is required.

Fitness for Duty Assessment is required.

All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check, Fitness-for-Duty assessment and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND two (2) years of experience in building maintenance.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
