Job summary

Christian Academy School System—Indiana Campus in New Albany, IN, is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Team Member to maintain a safe, functional school environment. The role focuses on building repairs, general maintenance, and keeping campus facilities in excellent condition.

Starting immediately, you will respond to work requests, assist with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry tasks, supervise student interns, and uphold safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to work requests and complete maintenance and repair tasks (drywall, mudding, patching, taping, sanding, painting).
  • Assist with general building systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and other repairs.
  • Perform routine facility inspections and coordinate safety records with the Fire Marshal and Health Inspectors.
  • Assist with custodial needs, classroom setup, and campus events.
  • Safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting 50–100 pounds and working at heights with PPE.
  • Follow established safety procedures and use PPE, lockout/tagout, SDS information, and safety equipment.
  • Use computers for work orders, email, texting, voicemail, files and internet tasks; operate a vehicle as needed.
  • Work with student interns and temporary staff by providing direction and instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Scope

The Facilities Maintenance Team Member helps maintain a safe, functional, and attractive school environment for students, employees, and families. This hands‑on position focuses primarily on building repairs, general maintenance, and keeping our campus facilities in excellent working condition. This position is located at our Indiana (New Albany) Campus.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate shall:

  • Have a general maintenance aptitude and enjoy working with their hands
  • Have general knowledge of building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems
  • Demonstrate a willingness and desire to learn new maintenance skills, trade‑related tasks, and equipment
  • Be dependable, flexible, and able to work independently as well as part of a team

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Respond to work requests in a timely manner and complete assigned building maintenance and repair tasks, including drywall repair, mudding, patching, taping, sanding, painting, and minor concrete or asphalt repairs.
  • Assist with general building systems and maintenance needs, including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other repairs.
  • Perform routine facility inspections, identify maintenance and safety concerns, and assist with maintaining compliance and required records, including coordination with the Fire Marshal, Health Inspectors, and other agencies as needed.
  • Assist with custodial needs, classroom setup, and campus events, including moving and organizing tables, chairs, desks, and other furnishings during the school day and occasional evenings.
  • Safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting and moving 50–100 pounds independently or heavier items with assistance; bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, climbing, working overhead, and working from ladders, scaffolding, or lifts while using hand tools.
  • Follow established safety procedures and properly use PPE, safety barriers, lockout/tagout devices, SDS information, and other safety equipment and procedures.
  • Use computers and technology for work orders, email, texting, voicemail, files, photographs, documents, attachments, and internet‑based tasks; operate a vehicle as needed and maintain insurability.
  • Work with student interns and temporary/summer employees by providing direction and instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
