Job summary

The Town of Groton is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor for the Water Pollution Control Facility. You will oversee maintenance, repair, and asset management of the wastewater system, manage staff and budgets, and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure environmental compliance.

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree in Engineering or related field and 6+ years in wastewater/water plant maintenance, or a Bachelor’s in Engineering with 4+ years in wastewater/water plant maintenance.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and common office software; ability to operate in extreme weather conditions.

The Town of Groton Connecticut seeks a dedicated, proactive, and experienced leader to fill the role of Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor in our Water Pollution Control Facility. The Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor will lead the maintenance division and will work on the management and asset preservation of the town's wastewater collection system and treatment facility, oversee staff and complex capital projects, and partner with a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure environmental compliance. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position in a key municipal department supporting Groton, an economic driver of southeastern Connecticut!

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor - WPCF operates under the direction of the Superintendent of Water Pollution Control Facility, carrying responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and asset management of the Town's wastewater collection system and treatment facility. This role involves evaluating facility and collection system assets to plan maintenance schedules, overseeing asset management programs, and assisting in system analysis and major capital projects. The supervisor directs maintenance and repair crews, inspects equipment, manages contractor specifications and budgets, and oversees inventory control and parts procurement. Additionally, the position administers employee training, performance evaluations, and collective bargaining agreements while enforcing safety rules. Sharing responsibility for regulatory compliance, the supervisor ensures adherence to laws and the facility's NPDES permit, maintains effective relationships with officials, the public, and co-workers, and coordinates with the Operations Supervisor to minimize treatment interruptions and respond to public inquiries and concerns.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The skills and knowledge required would usually be acquired with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering or related field, and a minimum of six (6) years’ overall experience in wastewater/water plant maintenance work or closely related field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and four (4) years overall experience in wastewater/water plant maintenance work or closely related field. A combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, spreadsheets, word processing, and databases preferred. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat or cold with temperatures sufficiently high or low to cause marked bodily discomfort required. Ability to communicate with maintenance staff, and to give instructions in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation repair work. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Must possess and maintain a Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred.
