Job summary

Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform operations and maintenance on a wide range of MEP equipment with emphasis on HVAC/R.

Under minimal direction, you will read schematics, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, manage inventory, respond to urgent requests, and support energy management systems. This is an in-person role on weekdays with occasional holidays.

Qualifications

• Must have HVAC/R knowledge and experience.
• Must understand mechanical, electrical and plumbing operations.
• Familiarity with energy management systems and controls.

• Operate and Maintain Campus MEP.
• HVAC/R systems emphasis: heating, cooling, pumps, chillers, towers, boilers, generators, controls.
• Read HVAC/Refrigeration schematics and blueprints.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as assigned.
• First responder duties for urgent requests, life safety and alarms.
• Manage inventory of spare parts and tools.
• Support energy management and pneumatic systems.

JOB DETAILS

Department: Facilities Management FTE: 1.0 (80 hours per pay period) Workdays: Weekdays, Every Other Weekend Shift(s): Days (7:00am - 3:00pm) Shift Length: 8 hours Location: In-Person Purpose of this position: Under minimal direction, an employee in this job class performs work of moderate difficulty in the operations and maintenance on a wide range of complex MEP - Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing equipment with an emphasis on HVAC/R - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration. The job class will also perform a wide variety of other moderately difficult operational tasks including; building and structural, welding and fabrication, and general maintenance work tasks as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate and Maintain Campus MEP
• Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems
• emphasis on HVAC/R systems including: heating systems and circulating pumps; cooling systems and circulating pumps; chiller plant and cooling tower; compressors; emergency electrical power generators; energy management system - pneumatic and direct digital controls; ventilation systems; isolation and exhaust systems; refrigeration equipment; steam PRV stations; and all other related physical plant equipment
• Operate and maintain PEVCO pneumatic tube transportation system
• Operate and maintain medical and industrial gases systems: medical air, medical vacuum, oxygen, nitrous oxide, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and welding gases
• First responder duties for urgent customer requests, life safety, fire, and physical plant system alarm conditions
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance repairs as assigned by Management
• Manage heavy equipment and supplies
• Read HVAC/Refrigeration control schematics and mechanical blueprints
• Perform tasks on portable ladders at varying heights and navigate congested mechanical environments
• Prepare investigative reports as required for indoor air quality problems
• Maintain spare part inventory, tool inventory, and shop supplies

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of technical college program in Building/Plant Utilities and Maintenance or HVAC/R Service
  • Three years of skilled mechanical and facilities maintenance experience or one year of the above experience
  • Able to work rotating shifts and some holidays OR
  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  • Must be skilled and experienced in mechanical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operation and repairs. Technical college program should include coursework in these areas
  • Must be skilled and experienced in HVAC energy management systems – pneumatic and direct digital controls, and the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems
  • Skilled and experienced in pneumatic tube transportation systems is desired
  • Experience in working in an inpatient health care environment is desired
  • Able to read and interpret pneumatic and electric schematics, building blue prints and technical manuals
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships in an organized labor large crew environment necessary
  • Able to orally communicate effective with customers and to complete written work orders
