Job summary

Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara is seeking a part-time Facilities & Maintenance Coordinator to keep campus buildings, grounds, and equipment safe and welcoming.

The role is roughly three-quarters hands-on work and one-quarter coordination, with a focus on safety and to streamline maintenance requests and vendor engagement. The ideal candidate will perform repairs, manage a simple ticketing process, source qualified contractors, and support vehicle upkeep and campus events.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in building maintenance, facilities, construction trades, or a comparable handyperson role.
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair work safely and to a high standard.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing requests, especially where safety is involved.
• Self-starter who takes initiative, follows through, and works well with minimal supervision.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills; comfortable explaining technical issues to non-technical staff and communicating with vendors.
• Basic computer proficiency for logging and reporting work.
• Valid California Driver's License and a clean driving record.
• Experience working respectfully with people of diverse cultures, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
• Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic, fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC (basic), and general building upkeep.
• Conduct routine walkthroughs and inspections of all buildings and grounds to identify and correct issues.
• Respond promptly to urgent repair issues that affect safety, security, or program operations.
• Support renovation and improvement projects, performing work in-house where appropriate.
• Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safe storage of maintenance areas, tools, and supplies; keep an inventory of common parts and consumables.
• Serve as liaison between program staff and the contracted janitorial company; ensure shared and common areas remain clean and orderly.
• Design, launch, and maintain a simple intake process for facilities requests; triage and prioritize with a safety-first framework.
• Keep staff informed with timelines and completion confirmations.
• Develop and follow a preventive maintenance calendar.
