Job summary

Boden Talent is partnering with a leading facilities services organisation to recruit a Facilities Maintenance Director for a Class A commercial campus in Columbia, South Carolina.

In this on-site role, you will own maintenance operations, lead a team of 8-9 technicians, manage budgets, and act as the primary client contact while driving reliability and efficiency across HVAC, boilers, chillers, RTUs and related systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial facilities management.
• Strong background in HVAC and MEP systems.
• Experience leading maintenance teams and contractors.

Responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced facilities or engineering leader who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership skills. The successful candidate will take ownership of all maintenance operations, lead a dedicated team of technicians, and act as the primary point of contact for the client.

The Role

As the Facilities Maintenance Director, you will serve as the technical authority and operational leader for a flagship commercial site. This position offers a balanced mix of hands-on engineering involvement and strategic facilities management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all maintenance operations across a Class A commercial campus.
• Provide technical expertise across critical building systems, including HVAC, chillers, boilers, RTUs, cooling towers, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
• Oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes and reactive maintenance activities.
• Manage third-party contractors and vendor relationships, ensuring service delivery and compliance standards are met.
• Control maintenance budgets, monitor expenditure, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Act as the primary client contact for operational performance, reporting, and improvement initiatives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 8-9 maintenance technicians.
• Drive continuous improvement projects focused on reliability, efficiency, and asset performance.
• Collaborate with site leadership to maintain exceptional building standards and operational excellence.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess a strong combination of technical knowledge, leadership capability, and client-facing experience.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial facilities management, building engineering, property maintenance, or technical operations leadership.
• Strong background in commercial HVAC and MEP systems.
• Experience managing maintenance teams, contractors, and service providers.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and operational performance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable operating in both hands-on technical and strategic leadership capacities.
• Military engineering or technical leadership experience will also be considered.

Location: Columbia, SC

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
