Job summary

Coherent Corp. is seeking an experienced Facilities Leader to guide a plant team, ensuring 24/7 operations, maintenance planning, and safe, compliant equipment performance. The role supports projects from upgrades to new constructions and coordinates with multiple departments to prioritize facility needs.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in facility maintenance, with strong mechanical, electrical, BAS, HVAC, and plumbing expertise, and a solid grasp of safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• AS/AAS degree in engineering/technical vocation preferred or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in facility equipment maintenance.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, BAS, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
• Experience working with regulatory and compliance laws related to facilities, buildings, assets, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the plant facility team including hiring, training, development, and performance management.
• Ensure 24/7/365 coverage with on-call response and daily facilities checklist.
• Coordinate daily facilities maintenance activities.
• Support facility projects from upgrades/retrofits to new construction.
• Act as a technical resource for facility equipment issues and troubleshooting.
• Verify major equipment issues are diagnosed and corrected.
• Assist in developing PMs, SOPs, spare parts, work orders, and energy control documentation.
• Work with departments to identify and prioritize facility issues and projects.
• Review production equipment impacts on facility infrastructure and explore improvements.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and guidance to assigned plant facility team including hiring, training, development, and performance management plans.
• Ensures site has on-call response and daily facilities checklist is completed even on holidays and weekends for 24/7/365 coverage.
• Daily coordination of facilities related maintenance activities.
• Supports in the execution of facility related projects, ranging from general facilities maintenance and upgrades/retrofits to complete building construction.
• Serves as a technical resource providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance on any facility or related equipment issues.
• Verifies major facility equipment breakdowns are properly diagnosed and accurately corrected.
• Assists the development of preventative maintenance (PMs), standard operating procedure (SOPs), spare parts, work orders, energy control procedure (ECPs), and facility equipment documentation.
• Works with all departments to identify and prioritize facility related issues and projects.
• Reviews new or replacement production equipment impacts to facility infrastructure.
• Seeks infrastructure and equipment improvements by identifying and evaluating alternatives.
• Ensures compliance with safety standards, building codes, health and safety standards, and any other compliance regulations.

Education & Experience

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to maintenance, department leaders, other managers, third-party vendors, and contractors.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task to manage multiple projects and priorities at same time.
• Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations and their impacts to facility equipment and projects.
• Must be able to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Must be flexible, willing, and able to respond to emergencies as needed to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

• Voluntary Participation on the ERT (Emergency Response Team) team.

Working Conditions

• Regular exposure to dusts, fumes, heat, noise, cold, and potential exposure to hazardous and toxic materials
• Performs work in a variety of environments, such as mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, attics, crawl spaces, clean rooms, laboratories or other specialized areas that require strict protocols, PPE and that may be confined, dark, isolated, or poorly ventilate
• Work may be performed outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Work may consist of being elevated either on a ladder or lift
• Working hours may consist of rotating shift, on-call, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7/365 operations

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects, equipment, and materials up to 50 lbs
• Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and reaching
• Climbing ladders and working at elevated height
• Ability to crouch, kneel, and crawl as needed to access and repair equipment
• Agility to move around the facility, including navigating stairs, uneven surfaces, and tight or confined spaces
• Good vision, with or without corrective lenses, to read manuals, identify problems, and operate machinery
• Acute hearing to detect equipment malfunctions and safety hazards
• Sense of touch to diagnose issues and perform delicate repairs
• Ability to work long hours, sometimes in overtime situations, to address emergencies or complete projects
• Endurance to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
• General physical fitness and health to handle the rigors of the job
• Ability to work in various environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures, high humidity, or dusty/dirty environments
