Job summary

Sanford Health in Albert Lea, MN, is hiring for a Full-time Facilities Maintenance Assistant. This role performs light maintenance and cleaning tasks to keep patient and resident areas safe and well-maintained.

Work shifts are day shifts on a 40-hour schedule with 8-hour shifts. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic mechanical knowledge, and the ability to read blueprints and use common tools.

Qualifications

• Trade school or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience in building systems preferred.
• Depending on location, a valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Take precautions in patient care areas; keep tools out of reach of children.
• Basic mechanical knowledge; use of hand tools, meters, gauges.
• Read blueprints, schematics and manuals; helpful for tasks.
• Explain conditions clearly while troubleshooting; emphasize safety and efficiency.
• Follow corporate policies and dress code.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Install/maintain mechanical systems including boiler operations; grounds and general maintenance (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC).
• May be on-call as needed.

Summary

Responsible for light maintenance repair and cleaning tasks completed in a safe, professional manner.

Job Description

• Must take extra precautions when working in patient/resident care areas and specifically keep tools out of the reach of children.
• Must possess basic mechanical knowledge and show competence in the use of hand tools, meters, measuring devices and gauges.
• Ability to work from blueprints, schematics and technical manuals helpful.
• Must be able to explain conditions and situations accurately while troubleshooting, and function with safety, moral end efficiency of the department in mind. Ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled.
• Must comply with all corporate and facility policies and dress code. Must understand written and verbal communications. Good written and oral communications skills required.
• Works independently with minimal supervision. Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances.
• Depending on facility size, additional duties may include but are not limited to: perform installation and maintenance of mechanical and stationary systems, including boiler operations, to ensure a safe and efficient environment; maintain campus grounds and perform other outside maintenance duties; perform general duties such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and bed repair and maintenance.
• May require on-call duties as needed or as directed by the department.
