Job summary

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is seeking an Assistant Director of Building Operations to support daily facilities management, safety, and compliance for our landmark venue. This hands-on role is essential to keeping the building safe, functional, and ready for guests and staff.

You will supervise maintenance activities, coordinate with vendors, and lead our building technicians, stepping in for the Director when needed. This is a high-impact, on-site position in New York City.

Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities maintenance or building operations.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams.
  • Fire Warden Certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Electrical license preferred or currently in the process of obtaining one.
  • Minimum of five years in facilities maintenance or building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director with keeping water, heating, and electrical systems well-maintained and compliant with safety standards.
  • Oversee security and building opening/closing operations.
  • Respond to maintenance queries and source local contractors.
  • Work safely in mechanical/electrical spaces and at heights; manage hazards.
  • Monitor external contractors to ensure contracts are met and protect the building's historic structure.
  • Provide leadership to Building Technicians and cover for the Director as needed.
