Job summary

Lana'i Community Health Center in Lanai City, Hawaii, is seeking a dedicated Facilities Maintenance Groundskeeper to help maintain safe, clean grounds, assist with minor repairs, and support patient-centered care.

You will perform groundskeeping tasks such as mowing and trimming, operate basic equipment, follow safety guidelines, and coordinate with clinic staff to minimize disruption to patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in groundskeeping or facility maintenance is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and landscaping techniques.
• Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment, such as lawnmowers and leaf blowers.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract.

Responsibilities

• Mow, edge, trim, weed, water, and light pruning of lawns and beds.
• Remove litter and debris from grounds, walkways, and entrances.
• Keep access routes clear; report safety hazards and drainage issues.
• Inspect irrigation; report repairs beyond scope.
• Clean exteriors and outdoor furniture; pressure wash when trained.
• Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance per training.
• Inspect and maintain tools, secure storage, report safety concerns.
• Keep facilities clean and safe including offices and restrooms.
• Coordinate with CFO/clinic staff; assist with room setups and deliveries.
• Maintain work orders and logs; obtain approvals and receipts.

The Facilities Maintenance Groundskeeper maintains safe, clean, accessible grounds, buildings, and equipment through routine upkeep, inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs. Under the CFO's direction, the employee documents work, reports maintenance needs, assists approved contractors, and recommends improvements. The role follows LCHC policies and confidentiality requirements, supports culturally sensitive, integrated patient-centered care, and participates in education and outreach activities as assigned. Responsibilities (Gronds and exterior upkeep of all LCHC Operated Sites):

• Maintain lawns, planting beds, shrubs, and landscaped areas through mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, watering, and limited pruning within training and equipment limits.
• Remove litter, leaves, debris, and unwanted plant growth from grounds, walkways, gutters, eaves, and roofing edges.
• Keep patient access routes and emergency exits clear; identify, secure as appropriate, and promptly report safety hazards, drainage concerns, and pest activity.
• Inspect irrigation systems, make approved minor adjustments, and report repairs beyond the employee’s scope.
• Clean exterior surfaces and outdoor furnishings using approved methods; pressure wash only when trained and authorized, with pedestrian protection.

Facility Maintenance & Preventative Checks:

• Perform approved minor repairs and routine maintenance within training and authorization; refer specialized or hazardous work to qualified personnel.
• Inspect building conditions, maintain tools and equipment, secure storage areas, and promptly report safety concerns, failures, and urgent issues.
• Keep LCHC facilities and grounds clean and safe, including offices, exam rooms, restrooms, windows, exterior surfaces, and landscaped areas.
• Coordinate assignments with the CFO and clinic staff; assist with room setups, deliveries, vendors, and authorized weather preparations while minimizing disruption to patient care.
• Maintain accurate work orders, inspection logs, and supply records; obtain purchase approval, submit receipts, and report follow-up needs.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience in groundskeeping or facility maintenance is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and landscaping techniques.
• Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment, such as lawnmowers and leaf blowers.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods.

Experience:

• Experience in healthcare facilities maintenance and knowledge of facility operations.
• Experience or training in clinical or hospital sanitation and cleaning practices.
• Practical experience, training, or demonstrated skills in grounds maintenance, building upkeep, minor repairs, and safe operation of assigned tools and equipment.
• Ability to recognize hazards, follow instructions and safety labels, and promptly report concerns.
• Ability to organize tasks, work reliably and independently within assigned duties, maintain basic records, interact professionally, and protect confidential information.
