Job summary

Oakland Family Services in Pontiac, MI is seeking a part-time Facilities & Grounds Technician to maintain and repair the building, ensure safe temperatures, and keep offices, restrooms, and outdoor areas clean and welcoming for children, families, clients, and staff.

The role is 20 hours per week, Monday–Friday 4:00pm–8:00pm, requires basic cleaning, light construction tasks, driving eligibility, and a high school diploma; the candidate will work under the Director of Facilities and support

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years' experience with commercial cleaning preferred.
• Ability to meet driving requirements and have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standards of quality per Oakland Family Services policies.
• Monitor and address facility requests using the ticket system.
• Perform minor repairs and basic plumbing tasks.
• Oversee building cleaning duties and sanitary conditions throughout the building.
• Conduct weekly inventory assessments of supplies and ensure cost efficiency.
• Inspect and maintain restrooms and offices to ensure cleanliness and safety.
• Escort staff and clients to vehicles during evening hours as needed.
• Respond to alarm situations and assist in emergencies as required.

Schedule

Part-time (20 hours per week). Monday through Friday from 4:00pm-8:00pm.

About the Opportunity

The Facilities and Grounds Technician will assist with general facility maintenance and repairs, ensure that the heating and cooling systems are set to the correct temperature, that all lights are off, respond to after hour alarm calls, assist with deliveries, assist with various construction projects, use basic hand tools, operate snow removal equipment, occasionally operate Agency vehicles and provide backup to other team members as needed. This position reports to the Director of Facilities. The schedule will be dictated by the needs of the Agency and departments and as such may be subject to change based on priorities and weather conditions.

What you’ll do:

• Maintain standards of quality as outlined Oakland Family services policies and procedures.
• Monitor the daily facility ticket system and address requests timely and document appropriately.
• Able to complete minor repair work, which may include replacing light bulbs, repairing furniture, basic plumbing tasks, fixing faucets, etc.
• Oversee and perform building cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the building.
• Weekly assess product supply inventory utilizing the most effective and cost savings products.
• Uses the daily bathroom cleaning checklist and all other areas as designated.
• Maintains and oversees all facility bathrooms for cleanliness and refills products as needed.
• At least weekly, thoroughly inspects and responds to areas in the building that need additional cleaning i.e., light fixtures, corners of walls/ceilings, staff lounge lobby, refrigerators, storage areas, etc.
• Inspects grounds daily both inside and outside the facility; assessing areas that require attention i.e., weeds, landscaping, trip hazards, picking up trash, etc. Communicates with Supervisor areas of concern.
• Communicates with supervisor frequently on any building/property concerns related to safety and risk in attempts to mitigate issues before any occurrences.
• The Facilities and Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining a sanitary environment in the restrooms and offices. The Facilities and Grounds Technician will comply with health and safety guidelines as defined by the Department of Community Health, Day Care Licensing, National Accreditation bodies and Oakland Family Services.
• In the Pontiac facility, the Facilities and Grounds Technician will assist and/or escort staff members and clients to their vehicles in the evening hours as requested, visual surveillance of premises and unusual behavior.
• Completes necessary paperwork in a timely/accurate manner, produces legible work and reporting.
• Attends regular supervision meetings with the program supervisor to review work progress and discussion on improving practice and/or areas of concern throughout the building.
• During shift and as assigned will be responsible for closing building; turning off lights, arm security system, lock doors and gate each evening.
• Will respond to alarm system if alerted to a disturbance on the grounds or building after closing.
• Take measures to correct building problems that occur while on duty and notify appropriate people when actions must be taken regarding repair or maintenance.
• Assist clients and staff during medical, fire or other emergencies. Communicates details of problem/incident to administration as soon as possible.
• Proactively clean areas in the building that require attention, utilizing the sign off log daily in each assigned area.
• Assists Depts with various events, set up, take down and clean up.
• Helps deliver inventory and orders to specific departments as communicated with front desk clerical.
• Attends all agency General Staff meetings and assigned trainings.
• Has regular supervision with Supervisor and participates in annual evaluation process.
• Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

• 1-2 years' experience with commercial cleaning preferred.Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize based on organizational need.
• Basic construction experience required; vocational training is preferred.
• This position requires driving; must have a driving record that is in accordance with Agency policy.
• Ability to meet the following physical requirements:
• Standing, walking lifting, twisting, pushing, and bending on a frequent basis.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds and carry it up to 90 feet (or deposit into dumpster, trash compactor or shred mechanism.
• Able to work in seasonal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

• Although employees have use of the Agency vehicle fleet to conduct business and are covered under our insurance, employees must provide documentation of personal vehicle liability insurance with minimum coverage of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per incident. Employees also must provide documentation of a valid driver’s license on an annual basis as well as proof of registration. In some instances, depending on the nature and frequency of driving, a chauffeur’s license must be obtained. (may obtain within sixty days of hire).
