Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and order across classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas.
• Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and fixtures.
• Mow, edge, trim, weed, and manage campus landscaping and outdoor spaces.
• Monitor facilities for safety hazards and report issues promptly.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate with vendors/contractors as needed.
• Assist with safety inspections and periodic preventative maintenance scheduling.
• Support school events by preparing facilities and coordinating logistics.

The Facilities, Grounds & Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, functional, and welcoming environment across PURE Academy’s campuses. This position combines custodial services, routine building maintenance, landscaping/groundskeeping, preventative maintenance, and general facilities support.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, hands-on professional who takes pride in the appearance and condition of the school and can identify problems before they become major repairs. The position requires the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple requests, maintain high standards, and interact professionally with students, staff, vendors, and visitors.

Essential Responsibilities

Custodial & Campus Cleanliness

• Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, hallways, residential spaces, athletic areas, and other assigned facilities.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and clean surfaces and fixtures.
• Maintain and restock custodial supplies.
• Remove trash and recycling from designated areas.
• Assist with cleaning and preparation of facilities for school events, athletics, meetings, and special activities.
• Monitor facilities for cleanliness, safety hazards, damage, and needed repairs.

Building Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance throughout campus.
• Address minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, door, lock, furniture, and fixture repairs.
• Replace filters, hardware, fixtures, and other routine maintenance items.
• Conduct basic inspections of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems and report issues requiring licensed or specialized contractors.
• Assist with preventative maintenance schedules for buildings, equipment, appliances, and campus infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate records of completed repairs and maintenance activities.
• Respond promptly to urgent facility issues that could affect student safety or school operations.

Landscaping & Grounds

• Maintain lawns, athletic areas, flower beds, trees, shrubs, walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor spaces.
• Mow, edge, trim, weed, mulch, prune, and perform seasonal landscaping activities.
• Operate lawn and ground equipment safely, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, pressure washers, and other applicable equipment.
• Maintain outdoor areas to a standard appropriate for a school and residential campus.
• Remove leaves, debris, litter, and other materials from campus grounds.
• Monitor grounds for hazards such as damaged sidewalks, standing water, fallen limbs, unsafe fencing, or other conditions requiring attention.

Facilities Safety & Compliance

• Maintain a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Identify and report safety hazards immediately.
• Assist with routine safety inspections and emergency preparedness activities.
• Follow OSHA, school safety, chemical handling, and equipment safety procedures.
• Properly store and manage cleaning chemicals, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
• Ensure maintenance work does not create unsafe conditions for students or staff.
• Inventory & Vendor Support
• Maintain inventory of custodial, maintenance, landscaping, and facilities supplies.
• Notify appropriate school personnel when supplies or materials need to be ordered.
• Help track maintenance expenses and materials.
• Receive and organize deliveries related to facilities and operations.
• Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when directed.
• Inspect completed vendor work and report deficiencies to the supervisor.

School & Student Environment

• Build student capacity in maintenance and facilities management by training student interns or helpers.
• Maintain professional and positive interactions with PURE Academy students.
• Model reliability, responsibility, pride, and respect for the school environment.
• Support the school’s culture by maintaining facilities that communicate high expectations and care for students.

Preventative Maintenance

The Facilities, Grounds & Maintenance Technician will help develop and maintain a campus preventative maintenance calendar, including:

• HVAC filters and routine checks
• Plumbing inspections
• Lighting
• Doors, locks, and hardware
• Appliances
• Grounds equipment
• Fire and life-safety equipment coordination
• Roof and gutter observations
• Pest-control coordination
• Athletic and recreational facilities
• Dormitory and residential facilities
• Exterior grounds and drainage
• Furniture and fixtures

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in custodial, facilities, maintenance, landscaping, construction, property management, or a related field.
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, standing, and working outdoors.
• Ability to safely operate basic maintenance and landscaping equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently and respond to changing priorities.

Preferred

• Experience working in a school, residential, healthcare, commercial, or institutional environment.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building systems.
• Experience with commercial landscaping equipment.
• Experience maintaining athletic fields or recreational facilities.
• OSHA, facilities, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other relevant certifications.

Physical Requirements

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to safely lift and move supplies, equipment, furniture, and other materials consistent with the requirements of the position.
