Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Facilities Engineer II to support the power plant and related systems in Winfield, IL. Work hours are 2pm-10:30pm with every third weekend, performing maintenance, safety checks and emergency responses to keep critical plant equipment running smoothly.

Responsibilities include operating boilers, chillers, towers, and EMS, conducting chemical analyses and preventive maintenance, and assisting contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years relevant building maintenance experience.
  • Technical training in maintenance field; HVAC/R trade school certification or equivalent.
  • Licensed as a Stationary Engineer OR the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license (Driving Abstract).

Responsibilities

  • Operates and assists in maintaining and repairing all power plant equipment with minor supervision.
  • Monitors other engineering systems and to take emergency actions as necessary.
  • Operates high pressure boilers and related equipment including chillers, cooling towers, domestic hot water, water heating, generators, switchgear and EMS.
  • Performs safety checks on plant equipment and conducts repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Cleans and paints equipment, piping, and accessories in power plant and mechanical rooms.
  • Chemically analyzes boiler, chiller, cooling tower and closed loop systems and adjusts chemical balances.
  • Handles chemical drums safely, disposing of them properly with appropriate safety gear.
  • Responds to plant emergencies and locates firefighting equipment.
  • Responds to service requests with problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections per policies and standards.
  • Operates facility equipment and systems safely and efficiently on a routine and as-needed basis.
  • May assist contractors/vendors with repairs, maintenance, and construction.

Hours are: 2pm-10:30pm and work every 3rd weekend.


The Facilities Engineer II reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.


Responsibilities


  • Operates and assists in maintaining and repairing all power plant equipment with minor supervision. Monitors other engineering systems and to take emergency actions as necessary.

  • Operates high pressure boilers and related equipment. Which includes chillers, cooling towers, domestic hot water heating system, water heating system, generators, electrical switchgear, energy management system.

  • Properly performs safety checks on plant equipment. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.

  • Cleans and paints equipment, piping, and associated accessories in power plant and mechanical rooms.

  • Chemically analyzes boiler, chiller, cooling tower and all closed loop systems.

  • Performs chemical analysis test and adds the correct amount of chemicals to keep a prescribed balance in boiler, cooling tower and closed loops.

  • Changes and disposes of chemical drums properly and uses proper safety equipment while working with chemicals. Understands the importance of chemical balance in all systems.

  • Responds to plant emergencies and knows location of firefighting equipment.

  • Responds to service requests and performs problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation.

  • Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections in accordance with organizational and regulatory protocols, policies, and standards.

  • Operates facility equipment and systems on a routine and as needed basis in a safe and efficient manner.

  • May assist contractors/vendors with repairs, maintenance, and construction.


Qualifications

Required


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2-3 years relevant building maintenance experience

  • Technical training in maintenance field; HVAC/R trade school certifiction or equivalent

  • Licensed as a Stationary Engineer OR the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.

  • Valid driver’s license (must provide Driving Abstract)


Preferred


  • Hospital or military experience

  • One year training in Boiler Maintenance

  • Current universal refrigerant certification
