Position Overview
We are seeking a Facilities Engineer II to serve as a technical lead for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and support facilities engineering projects across multiple sites.
This position will provide technical expertise across the full BAS lifecycle, including design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and system optimization. The role will work closely with Facilities, Maintenance, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve building system reliability, efficiency, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead for Building Automation System initiatives.
- Review and mark up drawings, specifications, equipment, and BAS system designs.
- Manage small-to-moderate BAS projects and project milestones from concept through execution.
- Lead and oversee contractors performing BAS installation and programming.
- Manage project financial activities, including RFPs, bids, purchase orders, and capital expenditure requests.
- Create, review, and execute project commissioning documentation.
- Maintain and improve BAS standards, SOPs, processes, and procedures.
- Inspect and test pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and digital control equipment.
- Troubleshoot complex BAS and building system issues and identify root causes.
- Provide training and technical support to Maintenance and Facilities staff.
- Support long-term BAS strategy, contingency planning, technology implementation, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with equipment end-of-life.
- Document work performed, root cause, and resolution in a CMMS.
- Work in controlled cleanroom environments while following applicable SOPs and safety requirements.
- Provide onsite or remote support during off‑hours as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any field with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR an advanced degree.
- 2+ years of experience operating and maintaining:
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- HVAC systems
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing systems
- Building/mechanical systems
- Experience with BAS design, installation, commissioning, and training.
- Strong mechanical systems knowledge.
- Experience managing projects and external contractors/vendors.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned projects and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Tridium Niagara, Honeywell, and/or Distech BAS systems.
- Experience with CMMS platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and schematics.
- Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks automation protocols.
- Experience with integrated building solutions, including:
- Temperature controls
- Critical environment monitoring
- Power management and alarming
- Zoned lighting controls
- Facility access control
- Experience with BAS hardware and controls.
- Fluent in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Self-motivated with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Work Location & Travel
This is a hybrid position requiring 4 days per week onsite. Candidates may be based at one of the following locations:
- Tempe, Arizona
- Irvine, California
- Santa Ana, California
Travel may be required up to 25%, primarily to facilities in Colorado, Arizona, and California. Occasional travel to Tijuana may also be required. Spanish proficiency may be beneficial for candidates supporting Tijuana locations.
