Facilities Electrician III - Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA)

Description

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes applicants for the role of Facilities Electrician III @ Jacksonville International Airport through midnight on.

JOB SUMMARY

This is skilled craft work that performs installation, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of electrical systems for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.

  • The work requires journeyman level knowledge of the applicable codes, techniques, methods, and procedures used to provide services in the installation, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of electrical systems, including electrical switch gear, breakers, busways, and motor control panels; electrical systems in all facilities, buildings, external grounds, equipment; and all related services and systems.
  • Uses and maintains various types of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow.
  • The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications.
  • The work is performed primarily outdoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are generally known, predictable, and controllable.
  • Operates a computer and hand tools associated with the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Operates motor vehicles and high-lift equipment/vehicles.
  • Work is reviewed upon completion for technical accuracy and compliance with instruction or established procedures.
  • Develops regular contact with individuals in other work groups or external vendors to obtain, clarify or give fact or information.
  • Position may require emergency call-in requirements 24-hours a day, 7-days per week based on airport emergency electrical requirements.
  • Position may require shift work and rotational schedules based on JAA needs.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates, performs, inspects the repairs and preventative maintenance on all high voltage equipment associated with buildings, airfield owned by JAA at Jacksonville International Airport (JIA).
  • Coordinates electrical substation operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinates, performs, inspects the repairs and preventative maintenance with the operational activities for the airfield computerized lighting control system located in Air Traffic Control Tower, Lighting Vaults and equipment rooms for JIA. Installs and maintains fiber optic network associated with computerized lighting control system.
  • Assists in making daily inspections and repairs to airfield lighting vaults and visual aids and maintain airport in accordance with required guidelines.
  • Performs proper inspection and repair of electrical motors, motor controls, electrical distribution equipment and switching gear through approved methods.
  • Assists with ensuring proper inspection and repair of overhead electrical distribution systems.
  • Assists with locating and ensuring proper inspection and repair of underground electrical distribution systems for construction areas.
  • Operates radio communications equipment as required for operation on the Air Operations Area (AOA).
  • Utilizes computer work order system for preventative, routine and emergency work orders.
  • Assists the Finance Department in reading, analyzing and repairing the electrical meters monthly.
  • Coordinates, performs, inspects the repairs and preventative maintenance for emergency generators at JIA and all GA airports to ensure they are ready for use at any time.
  • Assists with the installation and maintenance of radios in all Authority vehicles.
  • Assists with performing proper inspection and repair of all airfield lighting and associated equipment at JIA.
  • Assists with maintaining a preventive maintenance program for all electrical equipment at JIA.
  • Assists with the coordination of power bumps with tenants and JEA. Participates in coordinating activity associated with power outages.
  • Assists with the coordination of special event lighting.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Journeyman Certification in Duval County
  • High School diploma or equivalent and four (4) to six (6) years of progressive experience in industrial electrical work.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Experience in airfield lighting construction.
  • Experience operating high-voltage switch gear up to 26KV.
  • Class B commercial driver's license.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.
  • Class B commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain one within one (1) year of hire date.

Physical Demands

  • Field work, moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
