  • Develop safety logic tables and construction specs for packages.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70.
  • Lead root cause analyses and preventive actions.
  • Review vendor proposals and FAT participation.
  • Provide coaching on electrical and controls requirements.

Job Title: Facilities Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This Facilities Electrical Engineer role offers the opportunity to lead impactful electrical and facilities infrastructure projects within a fast-paced manufacturing environment in Landover. You will design, upgrade, and maintain advanced electrical systems, support major capital projects from concept through commissioning, and collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, safety, and external stakeholders. The position provides strong growth potential, exposure to industrial automation and PLCs, and the chance to contribute significantly within a small, collaborative engineering team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical and facilities infrastructure upgrades and design efforts for manufacturing projects in close collaboration with safety, maintenance, operations, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Manage project scopes for future transformation initiatives, including new production line installations, transportation systems integration, transformer replacement schemes, and switchroom upgrades.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of key infrastructure projects while effectively managing project budgets and schedules.
  • Support the planning, design, and execution of major capital projects from initial concept through commissioning and handover.
  • Manage the creation and execution of electrical and controls design deliverables, including power distribution single-line diagrams, network topology diagrams, and control panel layouts complete with bills of materials and schematic wiring diagrams.
  • Develop safety logic tables, construction specifications, and detailed scopes of work for construction packages to support installation and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure all electrical designs, installations, and modifications comply with local and national electrical codes and relevant regulatory standards, including NEC and NFPA 70E.
  • Provide leadership in conducting root cause analysis for equipment failures and electrical issues, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop, review, and update electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams to support troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
  • Create preventive maintenance strategies for critical electrical infrastructure and ensure their implementation in collaboration with maintenance teams.
  • Participate in hazard analyses, support energy isolation procedures, and contribute to arc flash studies to enhance electrical safety.
  • Ensure adherence to electrical safety standards and protocols across projects and day-to-day operations.
  • Provide technical coaching and training on electrical and controls requirements, standards, and best practices to operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Review and approve project vendor proposals, technical documentation, and drawings to verify compliance with specifications and functional requirements.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) to confirm that designs and equipment meet specifications, performance expectations, and functional requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with investors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to present project plans, progress updates, and technical recommendations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to facilities maintenance, food manufacturing processes, and industrial automation systems.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical systems, industrial automation, PLCs, VFDs, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience with power distribution and electrical installation in a facilities or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of controls and automation within industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and codes, such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 1910 Subpart S.
  • Proven project management skills, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with investors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting facilities maintenance activities within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or passing results on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience in food and beverage or similarly regulated industries.
  • Expereince in public works projects.
  • Experience working on small to mid-sized projects, including those around the $2M range, with comfort operating in environments that are not focused on very large-scale (e.g., $500M) projects.
  • Interest in and ability to learn additional PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in food manufacturing environments and familiarity with associated regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Exposure to unionized facilities and collaboration with unionized operations and maintenance teams is beneficial.

The role is based at a manufacturing site in Landover with a workforce of approximately 100 people and a small, close-knit engineering team. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and highly focused on innovation in electrical systems, industrial automation, and facilities maintenance. You will work with advanced electrical distribution equipment, control panels, PLCs, VFDs, and industrial automation systems in a food manufacturing setting. The facility operates as a union environment, and engineers partner closely with operations and maintenance teams on the plant floor. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80456.00 - $101905.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
