Sitka Inc. in Elkton, Maryland seeks an Electrical Engineer to join the facilities team. You will design, build, and commission facility electrical systems to customer specs using approved practices, supporting arc flash studies and labeling for each building.

The role focuses on power distribution, PLC/HMI programming, and coordination with cross-functional teams. Domestic travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power distribution for plants and equipment per NFPA and AHJ requirements; coordinate arc flash studies, breaker coordination, labeling.
  • Provide electrical design and hands-on support for facility equipment (drives, PLCs, HMIs, wiring, instrumentation, motor control).
  • Support sustainability efforts including utility metering, energy dashboards, and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Lead and participate in complex projects from scope definition to start-up and qualification of equipment.
  • Create/update electrical schematics, specifications, software, and documentation.
  • Prepare design and engineering Statements of Work (SOW) to obtain proposals from outside designers and manage consultants.

Job description

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our facilities team in Elkton, Maryland who will be responsible for ensuring that all facility equipment and infrastructure are designed, built, and commissioned to customers' specifications using approved engineering practices and meeting industry standards. The facilities team is seeking a skilled, self-motivated, service-oriented individual to provide Electrical Engineering Support for our team and equipment.

This role will be based at our facility in Elkton, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $105,000 - $135,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Performing design for electrical power distribution services for our Cross-Divisional plants and equipment power feeds according to NFPA and AHJ code requirements while partnering with Enterprise EE to maintain Arc flash studies, breaker coordination, and labeling for each building.
  • Performing electrical design and hands-on support for facility-oriented equipment (e.g., drives, programmable logic controller [PLC] programming, human-machine interfaces [HMIs], wiring schematics, instrumentation, and motor control systems)
  • Supporting Enterprise and Divisional Sustainability efforts within our customer-facing Divisions, including utility metering, energy dashboard development, energy efficiency improvements, etc.
  • Leading and being a team member of complex projects from start to finish, including defining project scope, writing specifications, design, build, installation, start-up, and qualification of equipment
  • Creating and updating electrical schematics, specifications, software, and documentation
  • Prepare design and engineering Statements of Work (SOW) to obtain proposals from outside designers and manage design consultants to deliver the project within budget and schedule.
  • Understanding of and responsible for adhering to the asset life cycle and obsolescence strategy throughout the entire life cycle of assets
  • Interacting closely with the design group and as an integral member of project teams which will have cross-functional representation that may include construction management, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, process engineers, IT, skilled trades, operations, and procurement
  • Working closely with suppliers on the design and purchase of new equipment and modifications to existing systems including providing field supervision of contractors for installation, start-up, and commissioning of new equipment including any documentation requirements
  • Supporting skilled trades and consultation with maintenance technicians on technical problems for advanced troubleshooting
  • Self-starter who is well-organized, detail-oriented, creative, and possesses excellent problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree (Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology) from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in an industrial setting
  • Experience with plant electrical distribution systems, arc flash studies, breaker coordination, etc.
  • Experience programming PLCs, variable speed motor drives and HMI interface software(s)
  • Industrial communications networking experience
  • Proven experience working as an integral part of a cross-functional team
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, prioritize, and complete multiple technical projects and daily tasks
  • Strong time management, organizational and planning skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a hands-on environment
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawing experience to generate schematic and other documentation
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply OSHA, NEC, NFPA, UL508A codes
  • Ability to travel up to 10% based on project needs
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with facilities-oriented equipment such as chillers, air handlers, air compressors, cooling towers, medium voltage distribution equipment, and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Experience working with process-oriented equipment such as oxidizers, dust collectors, exhaust systems, central vacuum systems, chemical storage systems, and classified electrical areas
  • Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with an understanding of P&ID, HVAC, & electrical systems
