Job summary

University of Houston Planning Department seeks a seasoned planning professional to lead development and implementation of campus design. You will act as the subject matter expert for project development, design implementation, and FF&E management, ensuring alignment with Campus Guidelines and Master Plan.

Responsibilities include scoping, budgeting, scheduling, feasibility studies, and coordinating with in-house and external teams to ensure successful hand-off to construction.

Qualifications

• Requires a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline.
• Degree requirement: Interior Design, Architecture or closely related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Department: PlanningSalary:Commensurate with Experience/Education

Description

Provides expertise and leadership with respect to thedevelopment and implementation of campus and project design. Actsas the subject matter expert of project development, designimplementation, and the management of project FF&E and confirmsthat the University's Campus Guidelines and Master Plan are beingmet. Supports facility specific and campus wide planning practicesthat synthesize the goals and mission of academic planning for theuniversity and component campuses.

1. Participates in the development of project scoping,budgeting, and scheduling. Projects range from renovations to newconstruction.

2. Oversees feasibility and/or programming studies to analyzeall relevant factors of a project, ensuring projects meet themission and vision of the university.

3. Manages professional services of consultants and/or vendorsfor planning initiatives on identified projects.

4. Oversees the FF&E selection, procurement, andinstallation for identified projects.

5. Creates design concepts, space plans, and test fits foridentified projects.

6. Reviews and advises schematic design, design development andconstruction document drawings and specifications from concept tocompletion, recommending cost effective changes if applicable.

7. Partners with project planners, project managers, facilitymanagers and engineers on facility design.

8. Evaluates space on campus and makes enhancementrecommendations to potentially include FF&E and/orarchitectural planning.

9. Tracks and documents projects uses project managementinformation software.

10. Communicates clearly and constantly with supervisor andappropriate stakeholders.

11. Assures projects are in compliance with the university'sMaster Plan and Campus Guidelines.

12. Assists with the creation and management of the university'sMaster Plan and Campus Guidelines.

13. Coordinates regularly scheduled campus partner meetings toassist with planning of current and future projects.

14. Monitors, coordinates and reports specific details to ensurea project is successfully planned and handed-off to the projectmanagement team for construction execution.

15. Coordinates with in-house project managers, in-house orexternal estimators, consultants and contractors as needed tosupport project development.

16. Leads professional experience to lead process improvementinitiatives.

17. Creates graphics and narratives for project visioning andother related planning purposes.

18. Assists and/or collaborates with other departmental staff toensure project success.

19. Adheres to organizations key performance indicators (KPI's)metric baselines to achieve departmental success.

20. Supports emergency response initiatives.

Department is willing to accept education in lieu ofexperience.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. Degree Requirement: Interior Design, Architecture orclosely related field.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directlyjob-related experience.

Preferred: Planning or project manager role in Higher Education,Commercial Interior/Architectural Design, K-12 School Districts,Real Estate or other commercial settings. Certification/Licensing:Registered Interior Designer, Engineer, or Architect in the Stateof TX.
