Job summary

Fairmont State University is seeking a Facilities Design and Construction Manager to lead planning, design, and execution of major campus projects. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure projects meet timelines, budget, and quality standards.

The role requires strong CAD/Revit proficiency, green-building knowledge, and extensive coordination across internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the construction management process to include planning, design, coordination, estimating, material and installation specs, procurement, scheduling, budgeting and project coordination.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare estimates by Construction Division Indexes (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to understand blueprints and to review, interpret, and apply project drawings from schematic design through construction.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare design sketches and interpret construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop progress reports and construction updates weekly; provide them on request.
• Assist with smaller campus construction projects including office space builds and site improvements.

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledgeable in LEED and Green criteria. Technical expertise inall AutoCAD applications, including Revit Architecture, Adobeapplications including photoshop and illustrator, ArcGIS,SketchUp6, Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Office Publisherand Microsoft Office Project. Excellent organizational skills forclassifying drawings, O&M Manuals, submittals, and otherconstruction documents. Provide various training to physical plantstaff and faculty on Fairmont State campus. Assist with FairmontState’s part with Higher Education Policy Commissions utilizationplan, and facilities condition assessments. Revise physical plantmanagement forms as needed and update files online. Serve as hiringmanager for architectural interns.

Plan, execute, and finalize construction projects according todeadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources andcoordinating efforts of team members and third-party contractors,architects, and engineering firms in order to deliver projectsaccording to plan.

Review project drawings from schematic design, design development,and through construction. Identify and aid in resolving issuesand/or conflicts that may arise during construction projects. Planand schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriatetools. Take part in construction progress meetings for all on-goingprojects. Track and keep current spreadsheet o RFI ;s, changeorders, contingency funds, and pay applications. Manage electronicand hard documents for project portfolios throughout duration ofprojects. Make as-built changes to drawings, as well as fieldverify data and drawings. Develop and delivery progress reports andconstruction updates weekly. Maintain these reports and makeavailable as requested.

Design, plan, and estimate smaller construction projects on maincampus as well as other sites. Have the capability and training todesign and plan smaller construction projects through the campusincluding: office space build-outs, retaining walls, restrooms,etc. Oversee student worker and facility space change requests.Participate on various committees, providing consultation andadvise to help steer and plan for future expansion, planning ofcampus buildings and infrastructure. Provide budget numbers, assistin capital project plans, and master plans.

Aid in the implementation and oversight of the MS4 (MunicipalSeparate Storm Sewer Systems) NPDES permitting and Storm WaterManagement Plan ( SWMP ) for campus. Ensure compliance with all DEPand MS4 regulations. Assist with eDMR reporting and annual reportto the DEP .

Perform other appropriate duties as assigned. Adhere to and complywith all relevant federal, state, and local laws; if assigned aState purchasing card abide by all purchasing rules and provisionsand reports/balances account as required or directed; adhere to allinstitutional policies and guidelines including the provision ofthe employee’s relevant employee handbook; adhere to and complywith relevant provisions of the WV State Ethics Act; adhere to allsafety rules and provisions, report any personal accidents/injuriestimely.

Minimum Required Education

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, orConstruction Management, plus two to three (2-3) years of directlyrelated experience; or any equivalent combination of experience andtraining which provides the required knowledge, skills andabilities.
