Job description

Job Title: Custodian

Perform janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning, sanitizing, and emptying trash. Assist with daily maintenance of assigned facilities, including limited repairs, replacing light bulbs, replenishing bathroom supplies, washing windows, and minor facility repairs. Monitor inventory of custodial and necessary supplies.

Additional responsibilities include:

1. Cleaning and sanitizing indoor and outdoor event spaces, including tables, chairs, windows, and counters.
2. Performing basic grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, watering, and pressure washing sidewalks.
3. Moving items within facilities or between city facilities and storage areas.
4. Maintaining records of custodial activities.
5. Ensuring safety protocols are followed and working in a safe manner.
6. Providing excellent customer service to diverse audiences and maintaining effective work relationships.
7. Arriving on time for work, meetings, and other functions, and maintaining regular attendance.
8. Operating and driving city vehicles safely and legally, including trucks with trailers or box vans.

Qualifications

One year of experience in janitorial and building maintenance in a large facility, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and chemicals used in janitorial and building maintenance.
• Understanding of safe work practices.
• Ability to work well with coworkers, the public, staff, and volunteers.
• Ability to work in a busy environment, including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
• Understanding of rules, regulations, and instructions, with routine decision-making skills.
