Job summary

City of Burlington NC is seeking a dedicated custodian to perform routine general labor and custodial tasks across city facilities. You will dust, mop, vacuum, clean restrooms, and manage waste, while assisting with maintenance like changing bulbs and filters.

Independent judgment is used when transporting between sites and completing tasks. The role requires High School diploma or GED and a valid NC driver's license, with strong teamwork and communication skills to support parks and recreation

Qualifications

• Hands-on knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.
• Familiarity with building locations and purposes of facilities.
• Ability to perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs.
• Experience operating floor care equipment like buffers and wax applicators.
• Proven ability to perform routine cleaning tasks and maintenance reporting.
• Ability to follow supervisor instructions and report needs promptly.
• Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and public interactions.

Responsibilities

• Open, secure, and monitor facility access and alarms.
• Dust, mop, vacuum, sweep, wax, and buff floors across facilities.
• Empty garbage, restock supplies, and maintain restroom hygiene.
• Document safety issues or maintenance needs for timely action.
• Operate and maintain floor cleaning equipment and tools.
• Set up and support events, including moving tables and assisting staff.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing filters and bulbs.
• Perform other related duties to support operations.
