Job summary

Thea Bowman Leadership Academy is seeking a Custodian to perform general labor inside and outside the building, under the supervision of the Facilities Manager. This is a 12-month, on-site position at our Gary, Indiana campus.

Responsibilities include daily custodial tasks, minor electrical and plumbing maintenance, groundskeeping, equipment movement, and adherence to safety and building codes. The role requires physical stamina and reliable teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must have the ability to perform general labor and manual tasks.
• Ability to handle routine maintenance tasks or minor repairs as needed.
• Work may involve indoor and outdoor duties and physical activity.

Responsibilities

• Performs all functions required for Custodial daily tasks.

• Performs general labor inside and outside the building including groundskeeping, moving equipment, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs all functions require for Custodial daily task
2. Performs various maintenance tasks such as minor electrical and plumbing repairs, etc.
3. Performs general labor inside and outside the physical building as assigned, including district wide groundskeeping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating power-driven equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, roofing and mowing, etc.
4. Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to students/parents.
