Job summary

Shawnee County is seeking a Custodian to maintain and clean facility buildings and grounds. You will use cleaning products and equipment under supervision and perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities Management.

The role focuses on area management, floor care, outdoor upkeep, inventory of chemicals, and operating a range of cleaning machinery. A pre-employment physical and drug screen are required, with lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Valid Driver’s License and eligible to operate a County-owned vehicle (HR-2013-2)
• Driving record that shows: No misdemeanor or felony convictions for traffic/vehicular offenses within 5 years; No more than two at-fault accidents within 5 years; No more than two traffic infractions within 1 year.
• Special requirements: pass pre-employment physical and drug screen; lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Area management: inspect, maintain, and clean assigned area; report maintenance items to staff.
• Floor maintenance: inspect floors and perform stain removal, shampooing, stripping, waxing and buffing.
• Outdoor maintenance: pick up trash outside; assist in snow removal on front steps and entrances.
• Caustics, toxics, and supplies: inventory and deliver chemicals; assist in ordering supplies.
• Equipment utilization: operate cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, buffers, carpet extractor and floor washing machines.
