Job summary

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City in Overland Park is hiring a Facilities Custodian to perform routine building maintenance and keep our campus clean and safe for staff and visitors. The role includes plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and grounds duties on a full-time schedule Sunday-Thursday.

Ideal candidates have at least three years in commercial maintenance, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and reliable teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years in commercial building maintenance with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall and painting.
• Able to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and carry up to 90 feet.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with staff and guests.
• Experience cleaning and maintaining commercial kitchens is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing maintenance including sinks and toilets.
• Maintain lighting and electrical systems, including ballasts and bulbs.
• Carry out carpentry, drywall, painting and wallpapering.
• Install and maintain drop ceiling tiles.
• Perform outdoor grounds maintenance and snow removal as needed.
• Assist with room set-ups and teardown.
• Clean and maintain equipment in kitchens.
• General interior/exterior cleaning and trash removal.
• Support Building Engineer as needed.
• Other duties assigned.

The building is home to nine Jewish agencies including the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. The building includes a preschool, K-12 private school, 500-seat theater, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, commercial kitchens, private offices and public meeting spaces.

Description

The Jewish Community Campus, located in Overland Park, is a 290,000 square foot building on a 29-acre campus. The building is home to nine Jewish agencies including the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. The building includes a preschool, K-12 private school, 500-seat theater, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, commercial kitchens, private offices and public meeting spaces. The Facilities Custodian performs basic building upkeep including trash pick-ups, room set ups, light plumbing, electrical, carpentry, interior maintenance plus exterior cleaning and maintenance.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Sunday-Thursday
• Tuesday-Thursday: 1:30pm to 10:00pm
• Sundays: typically 8-4:30 but flexible and depends on event schedules

Essential Functions

• Plumbing maintenance including sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, etc.
• Lighting and electrical maintenance including changing ballasts, bulbs, outlets.
• Carpentry, drywall, mudding, painting and wallpapering.
• Install and maintain drop ceiling tiles.
• Outdoor Grounds maintenance, as needed like trash pick up, salt application, snow removal and more.
• Assist with room set-ups and tear-downs and general clean-up.
• Cleaning and maintenance of equipment in commercial kitchens.
• Interior trash pick-up and other cleaning as needed.
• Ability to assist Building Engineer as needed.
• Other duties assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of three years of experience in commercial building maintenance that includes proficiency in light plumbing, lighting, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting and cleaning. Pool maintenance experience is a plus.
• Able to work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and carry up to 90 feet.
• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and customers.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Able to use common workplace technology such as email, internet, software, etc.
• Able to work schedule and be flexible when changes and/or overtime are required.

Physical Requirements

• Extensive walking, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting/carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Good manual dexterity utilize hand tools, diagnose and make repairs.
• Good visual acuity to complete satisfactory finishes for things like paint and wallpaper or carpentry projects.
• Works outdoors in various weather conditions that may include heat, snow and/or ice.
