Job description

The Commons is the hub of student life. Situated in the center of campus, it is the place to go before, between and after classes. Hosting major social, cultural and recreational activities, The Commons fosters community among students, faculty, and staff.

Position Overview:

Coordinate the day-to-day functions of Campus Life Operations, including Facilities, The Campus Information Center, and the Gameroom. Provide a safe atmosphere for the UMBC community. Coordinate with campus partners to maintain and improve the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day coordination of facility operations. Overseeing student staff, opening and closing facility, responding to requests, manage daily events.

  • Staff development, hiring, training, onboarding, scheduling.

  • Emergency preparedness and response.

  • Manage functions of Campus Information Desk, Facilities, and Gameroom areas.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • One year of experience in a higher education (e.g. student union/student activities office, building management/operations, audio/visual & building maintenance, emergency preparedness, staff supervision) or facilities management related setting.

  • Possess Drivers License valid in the State of Maryland to use vehicles to move equipment around Campus
  • Ability to nurture and maintain diverse, equitable, and inclusive work teams.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs

  • Active, visible, and accessible member of a team, solution-oriented mentality

  • Personable and responsive communication style that is capable of building strong working relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to plan for, track, and measure short and long-term objectives.

  • Ability to use multiple software platforms to efficiently and effectively communicate information between relevant stakeholders in the department

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior supervision of student staff.

  • Capable of performing basic maintenance using handheld and power tools.

  • Ability to safely use ladders, aerial lifts, and vehicles not requiring additional licensure.

Salary:

Salary: $52,000-$59,000depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
