Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking a Facilities Coordinator for the Henry Samueli School of Engineering. The role supports the Facilities Director in overseeing all spaces, coordinating with campus departments on maintenance, safety and infrastructure services, and assisting with space management and moving activities.

Founded in 1965, the Samueli School of Engineering educates approximately 5,000 students (4,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduates) with an integrative approach that blends fundamentals, research and hands‑on experience. The School's aim is to unleash innovation, create opportunities and inspire ingenuity. The School's faculty members are leaders in their disciplines who have achieved worldwide recognition for their research and dedicated teaching. The School includes six academic departments and broad range of associated research and administrative units. Under the leadership of the Dean, the School pursues research that is timely, socially responsible and cutting edge, and works in partnership with industry, state, and federal agencies to promote the transfer of research to applications that benefit society.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Facilities Director for the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, the Facilities Coordinator assists the Director in the oversight, supervision and coordination of facilities operations for all spaces assigned to the School of Engineering. The Facilities Coordinator acts as liaison between campus Facilities Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Transportation and Distribution Services and other campus departments for maintenance, safety and infrastructure services support to School spaces and occupants. The Facilities Coordinator will assist in providing oversight to areas not limited to construction, design, deliveries, security systems, key/lock management, emergency management, space management, moving coordination/participation, custodial/grounds issues and equipment installation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training documents.
  • Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Active listening, interpersonal communication and problem‑solving skills to effectively resolve questions, concerns, issues or problems and ensure cooperative and productive working relationships.
  • Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines, to establish goals and workload priorities, and to meet project deadlines within budget and time constraints.
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
  • Skills to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and design software such as AutoCAD or Bluebeam, including other software.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations and research goals.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plan sets.

  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools for basic trades related repairs, assembly and dismantling of equipment, furniture, fixtures and other items as required.
  • Flexibility to respond to requests and emergencies outside set working hours.

  • Problem solving skills with the ability to contribute suggestions for process improvements.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 yearsPrevious experience in facilities operations and management

Driver's License:

  • Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Preferred:

  • Lab or office design skills

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$34.31- $$37.88 (Hourly).Conditions of Employment:
