Job summary

ECS4Kids, serving Northeast and Central Florida, seeks a Facilities Supervisor to oversee maintenance across Head Start centers. You will direct Facilities Specialists, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate repairs nationwide across Clay to Marion counties.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of multi-trades experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to read blueprints. This role reports to the Senior Director of Facilities & Transportation and includes a competitive benefits

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; higher education is a plus.
  • Completion of appropriate trades programs is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of related maintenance experience (HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing).

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of Facilities Specialists to ensure regulatory compliance and maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs across Head Start / Early Head Start centers.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to keep facilities and playgrounds safe and functional.
  • Monitor safety systems and recommend improvements.
  • Diagnose issues using blueprints and manuals; procure parts as needed.
  • Prepare reports and maintain maintenance records.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Ensure that the physical environment of all our centers support the delivery of high-quality services to all children and families.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide direction and oversight of the Facilities Specialists to ensure compliance of facility regulations and the daily preventative and maintenance of facility needs.
  2. Performs maintenance and repair activities through out all Head Start / Early Head Start centers.
  3. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure that ECS centers and playgrounds operate efficiently and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  4. Monitor building safety systems and standards and provide feedback and recommendations to ensure all systems operate efficiently and safely.
  5. Performs special projects such as repair to plumbing, electrical, air-conditioning and heating systems. Build partitions; make plaster or drywall repairs, repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork and other parts of building structures, painting, etc.
  6. Inspect and diagnose problems and determine the best way to correct them, frequently checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
  7. Obtain supplies and repair parts from distributors or storerooms.
  8. Use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers, as well as specialized equipment and electronic testing devices.
  9. Secure appropriate permits and/or approval as required by law.
  10. Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
  11. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  12. Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  13. Other tasks as required by immediate supervisor.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
  • This position reports to the Senior Director of Facilities & Transportation.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma/GED; additional college level studies preferred
  • Completion of appropriate programs in multiple trades preferred
  • 3-5 years related experience (HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, and Plumbing)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work with the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records and prepare reports
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of repair and maintenance tasks is essential
  • Knowledge of applicable safety hazards and preventions
  • Ability to perform tasks with little direct supervision
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to use shop mathematics
  • Ability to problem-solve
CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile coverage
  • Satisfactory Driving Record (as outlined in Vehicle Driving Policy)
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service training annually, July 1- June 30
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Works in both office and child care setting
  • Extensive travel to multiple sites required
  • Evening, night or weekend shifts may be necessary and or required
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, heavy lifting and handling of materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
