Job summary

The City of The Colony is seeking a dedicated janitorial staff member under supervision of the Facility Maintenance Director to maintain cleanliness, safety and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings and related city facilities. Responsibilities include sweeping, scrubbing, waxing floors, restroom cleaning, waste disposal, window washing, and reporting safety hazards.

Requires ability to lift 50 pounds, follow instructions, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to work with other employees as a team; Knowledge of cleaning methods and preserving floors, walls and fixtures.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and disinfectants, equipment and tools used in janitorial work.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Operation of motorized vehicles and power equipment, vacuums, and floor polishers.
• Ability to use tools required in janitorial work.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, scrub, wax floors.
• Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
• Clean restrooms.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles.
• Wash and dust windows, walls and blinds.
• Clean walkways, sidewalks and parking lots.
• Inspect buildings for safety, fire and sanitary hazards and report to supervisor.
• Operate a variety of electrical cleaning equipment.
• Maintain janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Move or rearrange furniture, desks and equipment as needed.
• Set up rooms for meetings.
• Answer general questions from the public and City staff.
• May assist in training less experienced staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
