Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Custodian/Facilities Aide to provide exemplary service to members and maintain building and grounds. Responsibilities include cleaning, mopping, dusting, trash removal, light repairs, and setting up for events.

This role requires physical activity, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and adherence to safety and COVID sanitation practices. Training is provided within a values-driven, community-focused organization.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
• Abides by all YMCA COVID sanitation practices and standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains cleanliness and upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
• Performs cleaning tasks such as wet/dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, lawn care and snow removal as needed.
• Operates related cleaning equipment and machinery.
• Performs light repairs such as replacing bulbs, ceiling tiles, and painting.
• Records and reports necessary repairs and carries them out as directed.
• Ensures building safety and reports hazards to supervisor.
• Sets up furniture for events.
