Job summary

Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH seeks an HVAC Technician to maintain and service complex building systems, diagnose airflow issues, adjust air handling equipment, and ensure condensers, coils, and filters operate safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of experience in building systems operations and HVAC/building automation.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification and OSHA 10-hour certification.
  • Successful background check and potential health evaluations; willingness to work varied shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to airflow issues, adjust and clean condensers and coils.
  • Inspect fan motors, belts, replace filters, check pneumatic compressors and tubing.
  • Diagnose/repair/replace HVAC fixtures including AHUs, chillers, boilers, ductwork, pumps and piping.
  • Diagnose/repair/replace HVAC refrigeration units.
  • Inspect building automation controls; test electrical circuits.
  • Diagnose/repair pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on controls, dampers, belts and major building systems.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Respond to and analyze airflow issues, measure and adjust airflow, and clean condensers and coils.
  • Inspect fan motors, belts, blades, replace filters, and check pneumatic compressors and tubing for damage or wear.
  • Diagnose, repair, or replace HVAC fixtures such as commercial AHUs, chillers (250 tons and above), boilers, exchangers, ductwork, gauges, thermostats, circulating pumps, fan motors and belts, blades, actuators, piping, switches, and water lines.
  • Diagnose, repair, or replace HVAC refrigeration units (both residential and commercial).
  • Inspect HVAC controls and building automation systems; test electrical circuits and components for continuity.
  • Diagnose, repair, or replace pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Perform preventative maintenance: calibrate, clean, inspect, and repair controls, dampers, and belts on HVAC and other major building mechanical systems.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in building systems operations, commercial or industrial building maintenance, HVAC and building automation systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal and valid OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Safety and Health card obtained during the probationary period.
  • Demonstrated competency in the technical specialties required for this position’s level of responsibility.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and motor‑vehicle review; may require an employee health evaluation and vaccinations.
  • Flexibility to work shift hours, days, and locations, overtime, and 24‑hour emergency call service as required.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 70 lb., distinguish colors, climb ladders, and stand on ladders for extended periods.
  • May work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments and in cramped spaces.
