Facilities Building Systems Technician
Department: Health System Shared Services | Facilities Operations
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and analyze airflow issues, measure and adjust airflow, and clean condensers and coils.
- Inspect fan motors, belts, blades, replace filters, monitor pneumatic compressors and associated tubing for damage, wear and tear.
- Diagnose, repair or replace HVAC fixtures including commercial AHs, chillers of 250 tons and above, commercial boilers and exchangers, ductwork, gauges, thermostats, circulating pumps, fan motors, belts, blades, actuators, piping, switches and water lines.
- Diagnose, repair or replace HVAC refrigeration units for residential and commercial use.
- Inspect HVAC controls and building automation, test electrical circuits and components for continuity, and ensure proper function of thermostats and other temperature controls.
- Diagnose, repair or replace pneumatic and electronic controls.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including calibration, cleaning, inspection and repair of controls, dampers and belts on HVAC and other major building mechanical systems.
Minimum Education Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Per Classified Civil Service Specs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years experience in building systems operations, commercial or industrial building maintenance, HVAC and building automation systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Obtain EPA Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal and valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card during the probationary period.
- Demonstrate competency in each identified technical specialty required for this position’s level of responsibility upon successful completion of the probationary period.
- Complete a criminal background check and motor vehicle review; may require employee health evaluation and vaccinations.
- Shift, hours, days and/or location may change based on operational need; overtime and 24-hour emergency call may be required.

Unusual Working Conditions
- Must be able to push and pull 70 pounds, distinguish colors, climb and stand on ladders for extended periods, work in hot, cold, dusty or dirty environments, and in cramped spaces.
Additional Requirements
