Job summary

Crate & Barrel is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician II to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated material handling and facility equipment at our distribution center, ensuring high availability and safety.

You will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on conveyors, ASRS, sorters, PAC systems, and PITs, diagnose electrical/mechanical issues, use CMMS to log work, and coordinate with contractors and internal teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience repairing automated conveyors and material handling equipment.
• Experience wiring/programming VFDs and interpreting ladder logic in control systems.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, sensors, and electrical/electronic troubleshooting.
• Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics; solid problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on conveyors, ASRS, sorters, scales, and printers.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components and drives.
• Inspect and replace sensors, relays, motor starters, and encoders as needed.
• Maintain and service PITs, HVAC, compressors, and basic plumbing systems.
• Use CMMS to log labor hours, downtime, root cause, and parts used.
• Coordinate with internal teams and outside contractors for complex repairs.
• Follow safety procedures including LOTO and OSHA guidelines.

Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician II is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated material handling and facility equipment to ensure high availability and operational readiness across the distribution center. Utilizing preventive and predictive maintenance processes, this role rapidly restores equipment to service while collaborating with internal technicians, leadership, and external contractors to execute root cause analyses and safety protocols. Facilities Automation Technician II will share knowledge and perform training for Tech I’s, and will assist in coordinating maintenance activities to support operational and support partners.

A day in the life as a Facilities Automation Technician II...

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including conveyor systems, AutoStore ASRS, sortation systems, scales, and three-ply printer applicators
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and AC/DC electrical motors and reducers, ASRS robots and chargers, drives, belts, chains, guides, bearings, rollers, and pulleys
• Inspect, calibrate, and replace electrical components such as photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and encoders
• Conduct routine maintenance on auxiliary facility equipment, including Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), HVAC systems, air compressors and dryers, balers, and basic plumbing systems
• Diagnose low-voltage circuits and electronic components using multi-meters, infrared thermometers, job plans, and electrical schematics
• Utilize the CMMS program via handheld devices, capturing accurate labor hours, downtime, root cause, resolution, and spare parts used to ensure accurate metrics and site records
• Oversees outside service providers for necessary repairs when independent contractors are required - including calling, coordinating, and assisting as necessary
• Executes preventative and predictive maintenance on the facility and equipment and respond to all site issues as required by Facilities leadership
• Participates in ongoing training regarding technology upgrades and new systems applicable to the position
• Execute all safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash compliance, and housekeeping while actively eliminating equipment hazards in accordance with OSHA guidelines and company policy

We’d love to hear from you if you have...

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with repairing automated conveyor systems and programming controls
• Ability to wire and program a VFD as well as experience with 3-phase 480V electrical power
• Able to understand ladder logic and perform diagnostic troubleshooting with controls engineers (in person, over the phone, written instructions)
• Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in an automated fulfillment or distribution environment
• Degree from vocational school or college, with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field, or equivalent experience
