The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a reliable Facilities Assistant / Day Porter to maintain a clean, safe, welcoming environment for parishioners, students, visitors, and staff at the Pastoral Center in San Diego.

The role blends day porter duties with basic maintenance tasks and offers hands-on experience under the Facility Supervisor's guidance. The position supports with room configurations, events, and routine upkeep.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California driver's license, insurable driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform custodial and light maintenance duties.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Previous experience as a day porter, custodian, facilities assistant, maintenance worker, handyman, or similar position.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures, facility operations, and workplace safety practices.
• Experience with painting, carpentry, drywall repair, plumbing, electrical work, or general building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Facility Cleaning & Day Porter Services: Perform routine cleaning duties, monitor restrooms, empty trash, and maintain entrances and outdoor areas.
• Facilities Operations & Event Support: Set up and break down tables, chairs, equipment, and other furnishings for parish, school, and community events.
• Central Services Assistance: Assist with mail pickup, sorting, and processing outgoing mail; maintain copiers and supplies.
• Maintenance Support: Respond to service requests, perform basic maintenance tasks, and assist with minor repairs.
• Safety & Security: Monitor facilities for hazards and ensure doors are secured after activities.
