Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Manager (Mechanic / Welder / Operations)

Location: San Jose, CA

Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $70,000 – $110,000 annually (DOE)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled, hands‑on Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Manager to replace a long‑tenured team member who has been with us for 30+ years. This critical, multi‑functional role is responsible for maintaining and improving all aspects of our facility, equipment, and truck fleet operations. The individual will serve as the go‑to expert and problem‑solver, ensuring that our trucks, heavy equipment, machinery, and physical infrastructure are safe, compliant, and fully operational at all times. This role combines mechanic, welder, facilities manager, and operational leader responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain company vehicles including commercial trucks, pickups, forklifts, and small equipment
  • Ensure fleet compliance with all regulatory requirements, including BIT inspections, DOT standards, and safety logs
  • Perform preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance history
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues

Facility Maintenance & Operations

  • Oversee maintenance of all facility systems including electrical, plumbing, lighting, HVAC, and structural components
  • Perform hands‑on repairs including carpentry, welding, fabrication, drywall, painting, and general construction
  • Maintain overall cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the property
  • Conduct facility and safety audits (fire systems, hazards, compliance)

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform custom welding and fabrication for equipment repairs, custom racks, fixtures, and operational improvements
  • Modify or build solutions to improve efficiency and safety

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, BIT inspections and fleet safety requirements, environmental and local regulatory requirements
  • Promote a safety‑first culture, including proper PPE use and safe equipment operation
  • Maintain inspection logs, documentation, and audit readiness

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and execute facility and operational improvement projects
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement cost‑effective solutions
  • Assist with yard layout improvements, workflow optimization, and infrastructure upgrades

Vendor & Resource Management

  • Source parts, materials, and services
  • Manage relationships with vendors and service providers
  • Negotiate pricing and oversee outsourced work when needed

Communication & Leadership

  • Act as a key liaison between ownership, operations, and staff
  • Communicate equipment issues, timelines, and repair needs clearly
  • Support team members with operational needs and problem‑solving
Qualifications

Required

  • 5–10+ years of experience in mechanical repair (automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment)
  • Experience in facility maintenance or industrial maintenance
  • Strong hands‑on experience with welding and fabrication, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment and systems
  • Experience managing or maintaining a fleet of commercial vehicles
  • Valid COMMERCIAL driver’s license (Class A and/or B)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in indoor/outdoor environments

Preferred

  • Experience with BIT inspections and DOT compliance
  • Forklift certification
  • Experience in hardware, construction, landscaping, or yard operations
  • Familiarity with CMMS or maintenance tracking systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
