Job Title:Facilities and Employee Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager

Reports To:Plant Director, dotted line to Director ofUS Facilities & EHS

Location:Onsite, Marquette, MI

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities and Employee Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager is responsible for leading and continuously improving the facility's maintenance, environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and employee well-being. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership for preventive and predictive maintenance activities, capital projects, facility improvements, and EHS initiatives across the manufacturing site.

The Facilities and EH&S Manager develops and implements programs that promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in maximizing operational uptime, maintaining a safe work environment, and supporting the production of high-quality medical devices that improve patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Leadership

• Lead, develop, and manage the maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operation of manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
• Establish and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Develop maintenance strategies, schedules, and priorities in partnership with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
• Oversee corrective maintenance activities, root cause investigations, and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
• Manage facility infrastructure, utilities, HVAC systems, compressed air systems, cleanroom support equipment, and other critical plant systems.
• Lead equipment installations, upgrades, facility expansions, and capital improvement projects.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets, including maintenance labor, outside contractors, spare parts, and capital expenditures.
• Oversee spare parts inventory management and maintenance documentation systems.
• Monitor and report maintenance performance metrics, including equipment uptime, downtime, PM completion rates, and maintenance costs.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, reliability programs, and 6S activities throughout the facility.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP, FDA, ISO, and internal quality requirements.

Environmental Health & Safety Leadership

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and employee safety.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and other applicable environmental and safety regulations.
• Lead site safety initiatives and foster a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and leadership visibility.
• Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic evaluations, and safety audits to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
• Oversee incident, injury, near-miss, and environmental event investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
• Manage regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate and lead emergency preparedness activities, including drills, response plans, and business continuity initiatives.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including new hire orientation, annual training, and specialized safety instruction.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interactions related to EHS matters.
• Lead the Employee Safety Committee and partner with site leadership to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
• Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics, including incident rates, DART rates, corrective actions, and training compliance.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Lead and mentor maintenance and EHS personnel, establishing performance expectations and development plans.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, and Supply Chain teams to achieve organizational goals.
• Support strategic planning initiatives related to facility growth, operational excellence, and workforce safety.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, workplace safety, and environmental performance.
• Promote and model company values, quality standards, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Manufacturing, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in maintenance, facilities management, environmental health and safety, or manufacturing operations.
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience developing and implementing preventive maintenance and safety programs.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.

Preferred

• Experience within a medical device, regulated manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or similar industry.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), OSHA certifications, or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
• Experience managing capital projects and facility improvements.
• Knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA Quality System Regulations, and GMP requirements.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, reliability principles, and preventive/predictive maintenance methodologies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety standards.
• Knowledge of facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, electrical, plumbing, and manufacturing support equipment.
• Experience with root cause analysis methodologies and continuous improvement tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance management software preferred.
• Ability to analyze data, develop reports, and track departmental KPIs.
• Understanding of FDA, ISO, GMP, and medical device manufacturing requirements preferred.
