Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage seeks a Library Facilities Support role within the Library department. The position supports daily operations,maintenance, and safety of APL facilities, coordinates with facilities staff and contracted personnel, and helps ensure welcoming, secure library spaces.

Responsibilities include monitoring health and security practices, enforcing conduct with security staff, and assisting patrons and staff with facility and safety concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar discipline; background check required.
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar; two years of experience.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent; four years of related experience.
  • Employment is conditional upon satisfactory background investigation.

Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT: Library
HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm
LOCATION: 3600 Denali Street

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Supports the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of the Anchorage Public Library (APL) facilities. Works with the Facilities Coordinator to ensure that library buildings are in optimal condition by monitoring facility tickets, working with the Municipal facilities department and contracted staff, and performing direct facility support. Helps create a welcoming and secure atmosphere by monitoring the safety of patrons, staff, and visitors using library buildings. Works cooperatively with contracted security personnel to enforce the Code of Conduct and assists in investigation and documentation of infractions. Monitors daily operations in the Loussac Library and branches for health and security best practices. Fosters a pleasant, helpful environment, builds relationships, monitors policy compliance, and assists patrons and staff with facility and safety concerns. Performs other duties as

assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar discipline and experience in the field related to the position. Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Finance or similar discipline and two ( 2 ) years of experience in the field related to the position. Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent and four ( 4 ) years of experience in the field related to the position. Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
  • Employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
Additional Important Information

AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration.

If selected for hire, the applicant must be capable of bending, stooping, stretching, lifting boxes weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, pushing fully loaded book trucks, and standing for up to four (4) hours at a time.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $48.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable) is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
