The exceptional children facilitator, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion implementing a differentiated curriculum with supportive learning activities as well as working with classroom teachers through collaboration, coaching, and professional development. The duties of this position are a combination of compliance and instruction with an emphasis on supporting exceptional children (EC) and general education teachers. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.

Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures

- Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students
- Collaborate to ensure effective implementation of current curriculum and initiatives through subject matter expertise and providing support
- Model and demonstrate best practices in EC education; coach teachers and share new strategies
- Design differentiated curriculum and supportive learning activities for use by classroom teachers
- Support teachers in utilizing assessment results and research to plan instruction
- Plan instructional strategies for students based on EOG results ranging from accelerated to intensive intervention
- Identify EC students and coordinate individual or group instructional activities
- Lead and facilitate on-site professional development activities in EC education and other instructional areas
- Oversee all required EC compliance paperwork
- Collaborate with school staff and departments to improve student performance
- Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning
- Participate in professional development and other meetings, such as those related to compliance
- Perform safety functions/drills to maintain a safe instructional environment. Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of EC curriculum and instructional strategies
- Comprehensive knowledge of how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for EC students
- Comprehensive knowledge of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) process, compliance and documentation requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
- Knowledge of differential strategies including the ability to differentiate instruction for all EC students in reading, writing, math, science and social studies
- Knowledge of research-based intensive interventions, assistive technology resources
- Skilled in communication, both verbal and written
- Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice and business needs
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- Valid, or eligible to obtain, NC teaching license with EC area required
- Minimum of three (3) years' successful classroom experience required
- Experience in leading professional development activities preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
