Arup is a global design and engineering consultancy seeking a candidate pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture to contribute to facade concepts and detailing. You will sketch, analyze, and collaborate with Architects and Engineers on 3D modeling of complex façades.

The role emphasizes building enclosure physics, energy modeling, and the use of AutoCAD, Rhino, and Revit to produce drawings and reports.

The opportunity

• Give structure to facades concepts / ideas – sketching, reports, sketchbooks, spreadsheets, and analyses for discussion with Architects and Clients
• Engage with teams of architects and engineers focused on the 3D modeling (geometrical and detailing) of complex facades
• Carry out structural, thermal, and solar modeling of building enclosure details and systems
• Utilize advanced analysis programs and techniques (finite element) to understand building envelope physics and façade design
• Undertake engineering façade calculations with various materials, including structural glass, aluminum, stainless steel, wood, stone, and precast concrete
• Produce details and drawings using various 2-D and 3-D CAD and graphics packages
• Perform technical reviews of shop drawings and construction administration submittals to ensure air, water, thermal, seismic, acoustic, optical and structural performance
• Interpret specifications and design documents and write reports summarizing conditions
• Carry out mock‑up, factory and field inspections and investigations

Is this role right for you?

Required

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related Building Science discipline
• Core interest in the façade industry with emphasis on detailing and engineering
• Good sketching skills and an ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible and visual way
• Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Preferred

• Pursuing a Master’s degree with emphasis on Architecture or Engineering
• Coursework in façade engineering / building envelope physics / energy/thermal modeling skills
• Structural software skills, AutoCAD skills, 3D modeling skills (Rhino, Revit, etc.)
• Internship experience with a design firm
• FE/EIT certification
• Membership in ASHRAE, ASME, AIA, ASCE, or Society of Facade Engineering

Boston Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performedin Boston is $22.00 to $43.50 per hour. This range iscommensuratewith experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Boston will differ.

New York Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $24.50 to $47.50 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
