Position Summary:
The Fabricator / Welder / Millwright will display a high level of versatility and adaptability with varied skills in forming, assembling / disassembling, and welding metal components. Will create and/or customize load-bearing structures, anchor points, or secure containers needed for the movement or stabilization of job-appropriate tools and heavy or unusual size or shape equipment or equipment casing. Welding components may involve all types (Mig, Tig, stick) of welding techniques.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare material for the next step. This includes deburring metal materials, drilling and tapping holes, straightening tubing, and cutting material to length.
· Preparing all parts and sub-assemblies for work to be accomplished using assembly instructions, blueprints, schematics, and parts lists.
· Assemble components by measuring for the proper location and fastening parts to assemblies.
· Keep area of responsibility free of debris and dirt by sweeping, collecting trash, and collecting and sorting recycling.
· Assist the materials group with the kitting of project parts when needed.
· Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
· Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps, and welds.
· Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
· Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site, usually performing installation and maintenance work as part of team.
· Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, grout and /or steel.
· Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
· High School diploma or equivalent needed. Welding or fabrication certification(s) .
· Minimum 2 years’ general labor experience preferably within a manufacturing environment.
· Able to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints or schematics.
· The ability to use multiple and distinct types of hand tools used for fabrication or millwright activities, good understanding and use of various welders and welding techniques.
· Two or more years’ experience with structural or load-bearing welding and custom fabrication using a variety of metals.
· Able to follow verbal and written work instruction; work independently and in a team environment.
· Ability to effectively understand and operate within safety guidelines and policies.
· Good mechanical ability; understands proper tool use and equipment safeguarding.
· Understands or is quick to learn hand signals, flag signals, and coordinating spotters as needed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This is a very physical, hands-on work. A Fabricator / Welder / Millwright must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body such as crawling, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, occasional walking and handling materials up to 50 pounds. Must have good hand eye coordination, able to stand for long periods of time, and have attention to fine detail. Willing and able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment and/or outdoors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain.
