Job Description

This is an hourly position adhering to a 9/80 work schedule (off every other Friday).

• 2nd shift 3:25pm - 12:55am, Monday to Thursday, and the Friday worked 2:25pm - 10:55pm.

Salary starts at $23.50/hr+

Job Purpose

This position fabricates and builds the test chamber’s structural frame by following blueprints/mechanical engineering drawings. It involves using raw steel to MIG weld a structural steel frame per specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reads tape measure accurately
• Fabricates by welding sheet metal and structural steel to correct dimensions under supervision
• Uses math functions correctly—multiplication, division, conversion of decimals to fractions
• Fabricates welded sheet metal parts and structural steel frames to specified dimensions from prints
• Grinds all outside welds smooth for finishing and painting
• Reads blueprints/mechanical engineering drawings
• Lays out holes to proper dimensions per prints
• Demonstrates knowledge of MIG welding applications
• Maintains welding equipment
• Performs basic fit-up and MIG welding of mild steel
• Possesses advanced fit-up, MIG, and TIG skills with stainless steel
• Holds advanced blueprint reading and TIG/MIG welding skills

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Good attendance record
• Task-oriented
• Experience in TIG welding fabrication on structural steel and sheet metal
• Previous manufacturing experience
• Strong math skills, including decimal to fraction conversions
• Ability to follow procedures accurately
• Precision in reading tape measures
• Ability to read, understand parts lists, and complete quality check sheets
• Ability to interpret blueprints/mechanical engineering drawings

Working Conditions

Primarily standing work, with frequent lifting up to 25 lbs. and occasional lifts up to 100 lbs. Mechanical aids are required for lifting over 50 lbs. overhead. Tasks include detailed hand work, bending, squatting, climbing, crawling, reaching, twisting, and occasional kneeling. Extended sedentary periods and outdoor work in weather conditions are possible. Desk work and data entry on a computer are also required.
