Job summary

Smeal SFA, LLC in Snyder, NE, is seeking a fabrications associate to weld, measure, and assemble parts in a high-volume shop. You will read drawings, follow SOPs, and learn MIG/TIG welding and related processes. This role requires physical stamina, good safety practices, and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
  2. Lift up to 50 lbs. and be in good physical condition. Standing, bending, and climbing as well as upper body and back strength required.
  3. Follow all company policies and procedures as stated in the company policy and safety manual including wearing safety glasses, ear protection, and steel toed shoes.
  4. Able to work in a noisy environment.
  5. Work overtime as needed.
  6. Actively pursue cost reduction measures.
  7. Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
  8. Must be able to read a tape measure.
  9. Must comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, the product and equipment. Recognize and report all safety discrepancies to your supervisor.
  10. Willing to develop a thorough knowledge of all aspects of this field including products, options, and uses.
  11. Willing to gain experience in all phases of the specific Fabrication area to which an individual is assigned.
  12. Able to learn to operate all related equipment pertaining to the position.
  13. Can learn to read and comprehend drawings, sketches, or verbal instructions in order to fabricate specialty items or make them to a specific fit.
  14. Possess ability to learn to MIG or TIG weld and other forms as a cross training measure.
  15. Ability and willingness to train new and existing employees.
  16. Willingness to share department and company knowledge as needed.
Daily Functions
  1. Sand and grind welds and/or parts.
  2. Measuring and drilling.
  3. Identify and place parts in designated areas.
  4. Weld on a daily basis. This includes welding in small areas or in truck compartments.
Potential Hazards
  1. Eye injuries & exposure to ultraviolet rays: welding can cause damage to eyes. Required to wear an approved helmet with a lens tinted to 11 or darker per OSHA standards, or an electronic lens set to at least 11 when welding. Eye protection and face shield must be worn when sanding to prevent eye injury.
  2. Heat: increased temperature due to heat reflection in compartments from welding. Wear PPE at all times.
  3. Cuts & burns: Use caution to prevent cuts when sanding and wear PPE when welding to protect against burns.
  4. Trips, slips, & falls: ensure all air hoses and obstacles are kept clear of aisles. Use caution when climbing on and off trucks.
  5. Heavy lifting: ask co-worker for help or use a crane or forklift operator when lifting objects over 50 lbs. Do not walk under suspended parts and be cautious of co-workers when operating cranes.
  6. Air quality: wear respirator when in close quarters due to gases from welding, if needed.
