Job summary

Diversified Fall Protection in Cleveland, OH is seeking a full-time Fabricator to lay out, fit, weld, and finish metal components. You will read prints, interpret weld symbols, and perform MIG/TIG welding on diverse metals in a safe, production-driven setting.

The role requires layout accuracy, blueprint literacy, and a strong safety mindset. You will work with steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, using dedicated tools, and collaborate across teams to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of hands-on fabrication and welding experience.
• AWS 1G minimum; 2G preferred for MIG/TIG welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, sketches, and instructions.
• Proficient in layout work including measuring, marking, fitting, aligning, and verifying fabricated components.
• Strong knowledge of fit-up, tack welding, weld sequencing, distortion control, and fabrication best practices.
• Use of measuring tools: tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, etc.
• Working knowledge of welding safety practices and quality standards.
• Ability to inspect own work for dimensional accuracy and weld quality.
• Basic math for measurements, fractions, decimals, angles, tolerances.
• Safety-oriented mindset with proper PPE usage.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work orders to determine materials, dimensions, tolerances, layout requirements, and weld processes.
• Perform accurate layout on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel using measuring tools.
• Measure, mark, cut, grind, fit, tack, weld, and assemble components to print requirements.
• MIG and TIG weld on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel per approved procedures.
• Set up welding equipment, shielding gases, filler materials, and fixtures for assigned materials.
• Fit and align parts prior to welding and verify squareness and hole locations.
• Monitor welding and fitting to minimize distortion and ensure quality.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for conformance to drawings and specifications.
• Operate fabrication tools safely (saws, grinders, drills, presses, fixtures).
• Maintain tools and work areas in clean, safe condition.
• Report defects or unsafe conditions to supervision.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet schedules.

Position Summary

The Fabricator is responsible for laying out, fitting, welding, assembling, and finishing fabricated metal components and products in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role requires proficiency in MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, along with the ability to read prints, interpret dimensions and weld symbols, and perform accurate layout work from raw material through final assembly. The Fabricator supports DFPs mission of saving lives by producing precise, structurally sound, and reliable fabricated products in a safe manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, work orders, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, tolerances, layout requirements, and weld processes.
• Perform accurate layout work on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel using tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, templates, fixtures, and other measuring tools.
• Measure, mark, cut, grind, fit, tack, weld, and assemble fabricated components to meet print requirements and production standards.
• Perform MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel components in accordance with approved procedures, internal specifications, and quality expectations.
• Select and set up appropriate welding equipment, shielding gases, filler materials, consumables, tooling, and fixtures for the assigned material and application.
• Fit and align parts prior to welding, verifying squareness, hole locations, dimensions, and overall assembly accuracy before final weld-out.
• Monitor welding and fitting processes to reduce distortion, warping, overheating, expansion, or shrinkage of materials.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies to verify conformance to drawings, specifications, workmanship standards, and safety-critical requirements.
• Operate fabrication tools and equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, presses, clamps, fixtures, and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain welding equipment, fabrication tools, fixtures, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Identify and promptly report defective materials, equipment issues, drawing concerns, or unsafe conditions to supervision.
• Work collaboratively with production, fabrication, quality, and leadership teams to meet production schedules, quality goals, and continuous improvement objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical school certificate, welding diploma, apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience fabricating structural, architectural, or load-bearing components.
• Experience with additional welding processes such as FCAW, SMAW, or other specialized processes.
• Experience working with jigs, fixtures, repeatable production setups, or custom fabrication builds.
• Familiarity with industrial fabrication tools such as saws, grinders, drills, presses, plasma equipment, and material handling equipment.
• Experience working in a regulated, safety-critical, or quality-driven manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated reliability, craftsmanship, and ownership in a fast-paced or high-mix fabrication setting.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
• Regularly required to operate welding equipment, fabrication tools, and related machinery in a manufacturing environment.
• Frequently required to weld in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to use manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise welding and fabrication tasks.
• Ability to see details at close range to assess measurements, alignment, and weld quality.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, fumes, vibration, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to safely traverse the facility, including climbing, balancing, and maneuvering around equipment and materials.

Work Schedule

Full-time position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime may be required based on production demands, deadlines, or business needs. Occasional weekend work may be required. Schedule flexibility is expected to support operational and manufacturing requirements.
