Job summary

National Products, a maker of RAM Mounting Systems, seeks a hands-on Fabrication Shop Lead in Washington state. The role focuses on setting up and operating CNC laser cutting, brake press, and related fabrication equipment to produce high-quality metal parts while supervising junior staff.

The ideal candidate has CNC laser cutting and/or brake press experience, mechanical aptitude, and a track record of leading teams in a lean manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • CNC laser cutting and/or press brake experience required.
  • Previous experience mentoring, teaching, or leading others through processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and measurements.
  • Ability to use basic precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand machine operation and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to learn and operate multiple types of fabrication equipment.
  • Managed projects independently while acting as the lead, partnering closely with a teammate to drive results.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn machine-control and production software.
  • Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement practices is a plus.
  • Preferred: Prior welding experience and the ability to perform basic welding tasks related to fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC laser cutting equipment for sheet metal and/or tubing and support welding operations as needed.
  • Set up and operate CNC press brake and other fabrication machinery as trained and assigned.
  • Set up and operate drill presses to perform drilling, tapping, and countersinking operations.
  • Manage and support junior personnel in the fabrication shop, providing guidance on processes and safety.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished components from machines.
  • Read and interpret work orders, technical drawings, and basic GD&T requirements.
  • Verify material type, thickness, dimensions, and quantities before and during production.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure accurate cuts, bends, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  • Make basic machine adjustments and offsets to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, machine cleaning, and routine equipment checks.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine or process issues and elevate more complex problems to the supervisor or appropriate technical support.
  • Identify and report quality issues, equipment problems, material shortages, and safety concerns.
  • Follow established work instructions, quality procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area using 5S principles.
  • Assist with material handling, deburring, finishing, packaging, and other fabrication-related activities as needed.
  • Crosstrain and support other fabrication processes to maintain workflow and production requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to achieve production, quality, delivery, and safety goals.
  • Perform other duties related to the fabrication operation as assigned.

As a Fabrication Shop Lead, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and performing basic troubleshooting of CNC laser cutting, press brake, and other fabrication equipment to produce high-quality metal components. This position is an important part of our fabrication shop and requires a flexible, hands-on team member who can support multiple areas of operation as production needs change. The ideal candidate has previous CNC laser cutting and/or Brake Press experience, mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and willing to learn and operate multiple types of fabrication equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring parts meet specifications, production runs efficiently, and quality and safety standards are consistently followed.

Key Responsibilities:

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials and finished parts weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work around manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks and work in a manufacturing environment where exposure to noise, metal, and machinery is present.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a hands-on, versatile team member who is comfortable working in a fabrication environment. Because the shop will initially operate with a lean team, flexibility and willingness to learn multiple processes are important. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills across CNC laser cutting, tube processing, press brake forming, and other fabrication operations as the business grows.

Pay Range:

$23.00 - $32.00 Per Hour
