Qualifications

• High school diploma; 2+ years preferred but not required.
• Excellent reading, math and problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to read a tape measure.
• Ability to understand assembly manuals, diagrams, and sketches.
• Ability to read and understand tape measures, blueprints, drawings and technical plans.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform accurate work at a rapid pace.
• Ability to use power or hand tools to cut, shim, and modify pieces.
• Good eyesight for small parts; manual dexterity required.

Responsibilities

• Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Develops layout and plans sequence of operations for fabricating and assembling metal products. Examines metal stock or work pieces to ensure specifications are met.
• Determines kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job; sets up and operates fabricating machines and controls; adjusts controls for exact positions.
• Sets up and operates machine tools; forms and assembles metal components per length and template.
• Measures work piece dimensions to verify accuracy using measuring tools.
• Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
• Assists machine operators to set up machine and transport finished work pieces.
• Conducts tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance.
