Job description

Fabrication Field Foreman: Job Description
Role details

Job title: Fabrication Field Foreman

Division: EZARC Utah Fabrication

Department: Fabrication

Reports to: Production Manager

Direct reports: Field crew assigned to each job

Location: Pleasant Grove, UT shop and Utah jobsites

FLSA status: Non-exempt, hourly

Employment type: Full-time

Pay range: $28 to $36 per hour, based on experience

Reporting structure

  • Reports to: Production Manager
  • Works closely with: Director of Fabrication, Project Managers, Shop Supervisors, Detailing, QC, Safety, Shipping, and customer or general contractor field leadership

What this role owns and what it escalates

  • Owns: daily crew assignments, the field install sequence within the approved plan, pre-task safety planning, and stopping work when something is unsafe.
  • Escalates the same day: scope or drawing conflicts, schedule slips, missing or damaged material, fabrication errors found in the field, and any safety incident or near miss.
Position summary

The Fabrication Field Foreman leads EZARC's fabrication crews when we install our own steel in the field. This includes stairs, platforms, handrail, ladders, and structural frames on Utah jobsites. It is a hands-on role. The Foreman works alongside the crew while leading the work, the schedule, safety, and quality.

When there is no field work, the Foreman works in the fabrication shop as a fitter and welder, and prepares the next field job.

Why this role matters. Most of our erection is done by others. On the jobs we install ourselves, one person needs to own the work from the shop door to the final punch list. That keeps the crew safe, the customer informed, and our Project Managers from chasing field details. It also closes the loop between the field and the shop, because the Foreman sees fabrication problems first.

Job responsibilities

Plan the field work

  • Review erection drawings, shop drawings, and specifications with the Project Manager before each job
  • Plan the install sequence, crew size, equipment, and lifts needed
  • Confirm the site is ready before the crew mobilizes, including access, laydown area, and anchor bolt or embed locations
  • Prepare and load each field job: hardware, bolts, consumables, tools, rigging, and fall protection
  • Check delivered material against the shipping list and report anything missing or damaged the same day

Lead the install

  • Lead the crew in rigging, setting, plumbing, leveling, bolting, field welding, and touch-up of stairs, platforms, handrail, ladders, and frames
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor crew productivity and workmanship
  • Coordinate crane, forklift, telehandler, and aerial lift use with the customer or general contractor
  • Take field measurements and verify layout before setting steel
  • Coordinate daily with the general contractor and other trades
  • Complete punch list and corrective work promptly

Keep the crew safe

  • Run daily pre-task planning (PTP) and job hazard analysis (JHA) with the crew before work starts
  • Enforce EZARC safety policies, customer site rules, and UOSH and OSHA requirements, including the steel erection standard (Subpart R)
  • Make sure every crew member has the required fall protection and steel erection training before working at height
  • Verify proper PPE, fall protection, rigging, and safe equipment use every day
  • Inspect rigging, harnesses, lanyards, and lifting gear before use and remove damaged equipment
  • Stop work when conditions are unsafe, and report every incident and near miss the same day

Get it right the first time

  • Install to drawings, specifications, and tolerances
  • Tighten bolts and complete field welds to the project specifications and EZARC procedures
  • Document any field fix with photos and the cause
  • Report fabrication or detailing errors to the shop and Detailing so they are not repeated

Lead and document

  • Complete daily reports with manpower, progress, photos, delays, and issues
  • Review and approve crew timecards for accurate hours and job coding
  • Train and mentor crew members, especially shop employees new to field work
  • Communicate schedule risks to the Production Manager and Project Manager as soon as they are seen

Shop work between field jobs

  • Work as a fitter and welder in the fabrication shop under the Shop Supervisor's direction
  • Prepare kits, hardware, and equipment for upcoming field jobs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including harness, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, welding gear, and fall protection
Work environment
  • Active commercial and industrial jobsites in Utah, and the EZARC fabrication shop

Done right

Crew and records
Timecards accurate and on time. Daily reports complete. Shop employees grow into capable field crew members.

Compensation and benefits
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience and qualifications
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Health and retirement benefits
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Long-term advancement opportunities
