Job summary

Gap Inc. in San Francisco seeks a Fabric Development Specialist to drive fabric strategy, costing, and positioning across our North America and Asia teams.

You will champion a Fabric First mindset and partner with Mill Management and Fabric Engineering to deliver innovative textiles. You will lead cross‑functional initiatives from mill week through sampling, align with Product Development and Merchandising on pricing, and ensure timely project execution with quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with fabric constructions, dye techniques, finishes, and garment construction and manufacturing/sourcing processes.
• Ability to influence and make decisions across geographies in a matrix environment where speed and cultural sensitivity is crucial
• Anticipate operational/program issues and develop preventative measures
• Apply fully functional professional knowledge in R&D
• Ability to travel globally

Responsibilities

• Analyze fabric needs across the company and communicate recommendations to cross-functional partners for leveraging qualities across divisions.
• Track Fabric development KPIs and brand discipline on number of seasonal developments and fabric testing reporting and risk assessment tools.
• Partner with Product Development and Merchandising to ensure fabrics are within the V/G/B/B pricing architecture.
• Identify fabrics that need to be cost engineered and communicate with the Mill management team.
• Drive fabric process discipline throughout product to market calendar to ensure alignment at each key milestone.
• Manage projects and program execution within R&D and ensure quality of work.
